Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s greetings to US Veterans
11 November 2022 – 15:17

US Veterans!

On behalf of all Ukrainians, Happy Veterans Day and thank you for your service!

For almost 250 years the men and women of the United States armed forces have prevailed against tyranny often against great odds.

Your example inspires Ukrainians today to fight back against Russian tyranny.

Special thanks to the many American veterans who have volunteered to fight in Ukraine and – to the American people for the amazing support you have given Ukraine.

With your help, we have stunned the world and are pushing Russian forces back.

Victory will be ours.

God Bless America and
Слава Україні!

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 making it an annual observance, and it became a national holiday in 1938. Sixteen years later, then-President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation changing the name to Veterans Day to honor all those who served their country during war or peacetime.https://www.census.gov/newsroom/facts-for-features/2022/veterans-day.html

Still known as Armistice Day-Remembrance day in the UK, France, Canada (and other Commonwealth countries) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armistice_Day

The Scottish people have roots in Ukraine (Scythia). Is this the root of their fighting spirit? There are more ethnic Scots in the United States than in Scotland. The same is true of Irish. Scots as percentage of the US population peaked the year before the declaration of independence. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_diaspora The American colonists fought against German King George who sat on the UK throne. Many Americans, and their ancestors, had been deported from the UK for supporting the House of Stuart (Scottish) in the English Civil Wars and the Jacobite Risings.
