Russia’s foreign minister, Lavrov, made anti-semitic remarks on Italian news on May 2nd; doubled down on May 3rd. On May 3rd a Hamas delegation arrived in Moscow at Lavrov’s invitation; on May 5th, there was a terror attack in Israel during independence day celebrations; on May 6th, the “Head of a Knesset panel says Hamas will pay for inciting terrorism”. So, will Israel continue to fence sit over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine? There’s no fence sitting. If they aren’t on Ukraine’s side, they are effectively taking Russia’s side. How much longer?

A senior Hamas delegation arrived in Moscow on Tuesday at the invitation of Russia’s Foreign Ministry to hold “important discussions” with Russian officials, Tass reported yesterday.
Deputy Head of Hamas’ Political Bureau, Moussa Abu Marzouk, led the delegation, which included Fathi Hammad and Hussam Badran, as well as the movement’s representative in Moscow.
Sources reported by Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper said that the Hamas officials were scheduled to hold talks with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov.
The sources also expected that the Hamas delegation might attend a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov.
It is also planning to hold talks with the Russian parliament and the Federation Council, as well as to meet with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.

Israel is unhappy with the visit by a senior Hamas delegation to Russia at a time when its ties with Moscow have been fraught with tensions.
Israel Hayom newspaper quoted Palestinian sources as saying that the talks with the Russians will be important, and that the delegation will discuss with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Moscow the situation in Jerusalem and developments on the Palestinian arena. They also noted that the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, spoke on the phone with Foreign Minister Lavrov, about two weeks ago.
This visit comes as Russia has rejected Israel’s demand for an apology after Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s remark about Adolf Hitler having “Jewish” roots. Lavrov made his comment on Sunday in an interview with Italian television.
Israel is now seeking to ease tensions with Moscow as it does not want to reach a situation in which the Russians harm the interests of Israel.
