Mearsheimer is of the pompous, arrogant and spoiled generations of US academics, who were given opportunity due to expansion of the US university system, largely because of the Post WWII GI Bill and because of Cold War military funding. That opportunity led them to believe that they are smarter than they are. It’s very interesting that anti-American academics, like Mearsheimer and Chomsky, haven’t voted with their feet and moved to the USSR or Russia. The Soviets, and now Putin, would welcome them with open arms. How would an elderly Chomsky fare in his parental homeland of Ukraine? His father came to the US willingly, supposedly to avoid draft into the Tsar’s army, when Ukraine was occupied by the Russian Empire, but perhaps he was a revolutionary? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Chomsky At least people can read their propaganda for free these days and not have to pay for it. At least people can now see it for what it really is, because of declassification of old records. The Soviets and Russia have always supported “peace” and unilateral disarmament in the west, but not for themselves. These guys aren’t 18 year old naive idealists. They are old men, and can’t be so naive or stupid.
As can be seen on the map, the theft of Karelia by Russia was geo-strategique.
