“Il tuo pianto, o Madre, smuova i nostri cuori induriti. Le lacrime che per noi hai versato facciano rifiorire questa valle che il nostro odio ha prosciugato. E mentre il rumore delle armi non tace, la tua preghiera ci disponga alla pace. Le tue mani materne accarezzino quanti soffrono e fuggono sotto il peso delle bombe. Il tuo abbraccio materno consoli quanti sono costretti a lasciare le loro case e il loro Paese. “Your tears, O Mother, move our hardened hearts. May the tears you have shed for us make this valley flourish that our hatred has dried up. And while the noise of the weapons is not silent, your prayer disposes us to peace. Your maternal hands caress those who suffer and flee under the weight of the bombs. Your maternal embrace consoles those who are forced to leave their homes and their country. May your aching Heart move us to compassion and urge us to open the doors and take care of wounded and rejected humanity.

Holy Mother of God, while you were under the cross, Jesus, seeing the disciple next to you, told you: “Behold your son” (Jn 19:26): thus he has entrusted each of us to you. Then to the disciple, to each one of us, he said: “Behold your mother” (v. 27). Mother, we now wish to welcome you into our life and our history. In this hour, humanity, exhausted and distraught, stands under the cross with you. And she needs to entrust herself to you, to consecrate herself to Christ through you. The Ukrainian people and the Russian people, who venerate you with love, have recourse to you, while your Heart throbs for them and for all the peoples killed by war, hunger, injustice and misery.

However, for some reason they translate “yes”, as “fiat”, which makes Mary’s free will and Mary saying “yes” unclear for the average English speaker. The literal translation from Italian (Donna del sì) is woman of the yes, which is probably better translated, woman who said “yes”/our lady who said “yes”. The beauty of this is Mary’s leap of faith (and free will).
