“According to federal government data, EcoHealth received tens of millions in federal research dollars. EcoHealth has partnered with the WIV since 2004.” https://reschenthaler.house.gov/media/press-releases/reschenthaler-uncovers-11-million-taxpayer-funding-sent-wuhan-institute So, EcoHealth has probably given Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) more than the $1.9 million of US Federal funding (aka taxes and debt).

Between 2009-2019, USAID “PREDICT”, headed by JK Mazet at UC-Davis, gave $1.1 million to Wuhan Institute of Virology via Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance. NIAID funding to Wuhan Institute of Virology from FY 2014-2019 was $826,277. This, alone, totals $1,926,277. Why is no one calling out Mazet-UC Davis?

So, then, what did they do with the money? EcoHealth Alliance President, British-Ukrainian Peter Daszak explains (2016): “Then, when you get a sequence of a virus, and it looks like a relative of a known nasty pathogen… So, we sequenced the spike protein, the protein that attaches to the cells – then we – Well I didn’t do this work, but my colleagues in China did the work – you create pseudo-particles, you insert the spike proteins from those viruses to see if it bind to human cells. This then totals $1,926,277 – not counting interest on the US debt, and lost opportunity for a good use of that money. And, it’s not counting the cost of the pandemic, which this may have caused. And, how much overhead did EcoHealth Alliance get? How much overhead did UC-Davis get?

The USAID Predict program U.C. Davis 5 year funding page was updated in September 2019. Therefore it appears to be from 2014-2019. “New Award this quarter – $11,600,000. The overall 5-year award is $138.4M“. They were given at least $200 million over the course of 10 years. Trump stopped their funding in September of 2019. The pandemic provided an excuse for their funding to be extended by a bureaucrat:

Abstract
PREDICT enables global surveillance of pathogens that can spillover from animal hosts to people by building capacities to detect and discover viruses of pandemic potential. The project is part of USAID’s Emerging Pandemic Threats program and is led by the UC Davis One Health Institute.

In addition to UCD Vet Med, the core partners are USAID, EcoHealth Alliance, Metabiota, Wildlife Conservation Society, and Smithsonian Institution working with universities, NGOs, and ministries of health, agriculture, and environment in 35 countries”.

* In 2018, two State Department cables raised concerns regarding safety and management weaknesses at the WIV.
* Scientists at the WIV noted “a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory.”
* According to a January 15, 2021 State Department press release, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced several researchers inside the WIV became sick with COVID-19 like symptoms in the fall of 2019.
