Contrary to the way that it’s been reported in various news services, Ukraine’s Prosecutor General & Chief of Security have NOT been permanently dismissed, but merely suspended pending investigation. It appears that this is more like an impeachment process, where the official is investigated and then parliament will vote on whether to dismiss.

President Volodymyr Zelensky tabled a motion to dismiss Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova.

A relevant announcement was published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. Draft resolution No. 7567 has been registered. https://itd.rada.gov.ua/billInfo/Bills/Card/40057

Earlier, draft resolution on the dismissal of Ivan Bakanov from the position of Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine No. 7564 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

On July 17, President Volodymyr Zelensky suspended Ivan Bakanov, Chief of the Security Service of Ukraine, from his duties and removed Iryna Venediktova from the post of Prosecutor General.

Andriy Smyrnov, Deputy Head of the President’s Office, explained that the President’s decision did not mean the dismissal of officials.

Official checks will be carried out, after which the President will decide whether to file an appropriate motion at the parliament. olhttps://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-polytics/3532147-zelensky-tables-motion-to-dismiss-prosecutor-general-venediktova.html

Reuters: “Ukraine’s president fires spy chief and top state prosecutor
By Tom Balmforth and Max Hunder July 17, 2022, 5:34 PM EDT
KYIV, July 17 (Reuters) – President Volodymyr Zelenskiy on Sunday abruptly fired the head of Ukraine’s powerful domestic security agency, the SBU, and the state prosecutor general, citing dozens of cases of collaboration with Russia by officials in their agencies.
The sackings of SBU chief Ivan Bakanov, a childhood friend of Zelenskiy, and Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova, who has played a key role in the prosecution of Russian war crimes, were announced in executive orders on the president’s website.

Tom Balmforth worked for years at RFERL and should know the Ukrainian system.

It appears that something may have gotten lost in translation:
https://t.me/s/V_Zelenskiy_official, July 17 2022:
I made a decision to remove the Prosecutor General from office and to dismiss the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
As of today, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered regarding treason and collaboration activities of employees of prosecutor’s offices, pretrial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement agencies. In 198 criminal proceedings, relevant persons were notified of suspicion.
In particular, more than 60 employees of the prosecutor’s office and the Security Service of Ukraine remained in the occupied territory and are working against our state.
Such an array of crimes against the foundations of the national security of the state and the connections detected between the employees of the security forces of Ukraine and the special services of Russia pose very serious questions to the relevant leadership. Each of these questions will receive a proper answer
