Roman Abramovitch “poisoned” at peace talks with Ukraine” – BBC News https://youtu.be/P1jlyVJ_wdM

While they warn, in the video, that negotiators shouldn’t eat or drink anything and should be careful with whom they shake hands, they fail to note that something could be left on the table, chairs, or air. Videoconference appears the best way.

Is the point of negotiating to say there are negotiations underway? It’s unclear what can be negotiated anyway, when Putin’s trying to steal his neighbor’s land. Regarding today’s negotiations: “According to the top diplomat, the minimum result Ukraine will try to achieve in the negotiations in Turkey is resolving humanitarian issues. The maximum agenda is about a ceasefire and reaching stable agreements.https://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-polytics/3442569-people-land-sovereignty-no-bargaining-chips-kuleba-on-talks-with-russia.html

Abramovich’s old friend and former oligarch, Khodorkovsky, thinks that Abramovich can do nothing: “How dangerous is Putin? Hear ex-Russian oligarch’s answerhttps://youtu.be/7nFZUaYwH5I Anyone who thinks that something can be negotiated with Putin is lucky enough not to have dealt with someone like him in day to day life. There are many mini-Putins in this world, and there’s no compromising possible with them, because they won’t compromise. They want everything for themselves. Mini-Putins, in day to day life, is why there is a need for law enforcement and the judiciary system. Would the US give half of itself to Mexico? If so, why did they fight the Mexican-American war, or the deadliest US war, the US Civil War? Russia’s the biggest country by land area, but only 9th in population. If any country should be dismembered, it should be Russia.

Abramovich, Ukrainian Peace Negotiators Suffered ‘Poisoning Symptoms’
Sanctioned Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and Ukrainian peace negotiators suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning earlier this month after a meeting in Kyiv, The Wall Street Journal has reported.

The newspaper said on March 28 that its sources were people familiar with the matter but did not name them. It said Abramovich, who accepted a Ukrainian request to help negotiate an end to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and at least two senior members of the Ukrainian team were affected.

Their symptoms included red eyes, constant and painful tearing, and peeling skin on their faces and hands, the report added.

Abramovich, owner of the English Premier League soccer team Chelsea, confirmed through a spokesperson that he “suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning,” according to open-source investigative group Bellingcat and the BBC.

Abramovich and the Ukrainian negotiators, including Crimean Tatar lawmaker Rustem Umerov, have improved and their lives are not in danger, the newspaper said.

Bellingcat said earlier on Twitter that “three members of the delegation attending the peace talks between Ukraine and Russia on the night of 3 to 4 March 2022 experienced symptoms consistent with poisoning with chemical weapons. One of victims was Russian entrepreneur Roman Abramovich.”

The Kremlin has said Abramovich played an early role in peace talks between Russia and Ukraine, but the process was now in the hands of the two sides’ negotiating teams.

Western countries have imposed unprecedented sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine, including placing oligarchs and other individuals close to Putin on sanctions lists.

Abramovich was among the individuals listed under new sanctions adopted by the European Union last week. He has said he will sell Chelsea and use the proceeds to set up a charitable foundation “for the benefit of all victims of the war in Ukraine.”

While according to the article, below, the Ukrainian negotiators appear to be indirectly denying that they were poisoned, it is certainly in line with the policies of the Kremlin going back to Tsarist times. Report: Peace Negotiators for Ukraine, Russia Showed Symptoms of Poisoning March 28, 2022 4:28 PM UPDATE March 28, 2022 9:44 PM VOA News
Delegation members attending peace talks between Ukraine and Russia suffered symptoms of suspected poisoning after a meeting in Kyiv earlier this month, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich and at least two senior members of the Ukrainian team, including Crimean Tatar lawmaker Rustem Umerov, were affected, according to the newspaper, which cited people familiar with the matter.

It said the delegation members showed symptoms that included red eyes, constant and painful tearing, and peeling skin on their faces and hands. The health of those affected has since improved, and their lives are not in danger, according to the report.

Investigators for the open-source collective Bellingcat were also involved in sourcing the WSJ report.

Bellingcat said its sources had confirmed the events, citing experts who had investigated the matter and concluded that “poisoning with an undefined chemical weapon” was the most likely cause.

The experts said the choice of toxic substance and dose indicates it “most likely was intended to scare the victims, as opposed to cause permanent damage.”

Bellingcat said the three men experiencing symptoms consumed only chocolate and water in the hours before the symptoms appeared. It said a fourth member of the team had also consumed the same but did not experience symptoms.

It was not clear who was behind the suspected poisoning, WSJ said, but those targeted blamed hardliners in Moscow seeking to disrupt the negotiations.

Asked Monday about the report, Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak did not confirm the attack. “There is a lot of speculation about the information in the media and various conspiracy theories,” he said.

Umerov, who was identified as one of the targets of the suspected poisoning in the WSJ report, urged people not to trust “unverified information.”

A U.S. official told Reuters on Monday that intelligence suggested an environmental factor, not poison, made the three men ill. The official, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, did not give reasons for the assessment.

The Kremlin has not commented on the report.

Abramovich is a billionaire Russian businessman with close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin and one of numerous oligarchs under sanctions from Western countries.

Last week, WSJ reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked U.S. President Joe Biden not to include Abramovich in U.S. sanctions, arguing that the Russian could help to negotiate a peace deal.
