Trump’s extortion of Ukraine is apparently not new. Ukraine hired, or was required to hire, Republican BGR (Barbour, Griffith, Rogers) lobbying group, in this earlier period. The timeline-documentation is in FARA and the Senate lobbying databases under BGR Group and Ukraine.

It is unknown if Trump directly threatened them, or if the Ukraine shut down investigations related to the Mueller investigation, along with any cooperation with Mueller, out of fear of the repercussions of pissing off Trump. They probably also feared pissing off the Republican Congress. Couldn’t they get weapons from France? Or does France fear losing business in Russia by helping out the Ukraine? It makes no sense at all to get weapons from Trump to protect from Putin, since Trump appears so madly in love with Putin, and Trump was Putin’s preferred candidate.
