Like the vast majority of Americans, I’ve grown increasingly frustrated with the childish rancor of our public discourse. Our inability to conduct ourselves in a civil and respectable fashion has paralyzed the most powerful government in the history of the world, and for what? A 10-second soundbite on prime time news and a few thousand twitter followers?… I call on all of my colleagues and all of America to listen more and talk less,… and to resist the temptation to fight when others wish to escalate” (US Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, July 16, 2019)

Before leaving, US Congressman Cleaver, a United Methodist preacher, who was chairing a floor debate on a House resolution to condemn one of Trump’s tweets said: “Chair is ready to make a statement. I came in here to try to do this in a fair way. I kept warning both sides “let’s not do this” hoping to get through. Ms. Jayapal had a situation where we could be here on another motion to take down words of a friend of mine. But, we don’t ever ever want to pass over an opportunity, it seems, to escalate. And, that’s what this is. I dare anybody to look at any of the footage and see if there was any unfairness. But unfairness is not enough because we want to just fight. I abandon the chair.” (He probably meant “fairness is not enough”). Text transcribed by us from video: https://youtu.be/iDNGTWPobu4

When he referred to Ms. Jayapal’s “situation” he appears to have been referring to her reaction to Republican Congressman Duffy’s statement, which she wanted struck from the record, as part of a tit for tat. All while refusing to do anything truly useful, like impeach Trump, Pelosi chose to create havoc by calling Trump’s tweets racist. It is apparently against House rules to call Trump a racist, even though he appears to be one and it’s not new news. Republicans tried to get that struck from the record, etc.

Trump and Pelosi are leading a three ring circus, possibly on Putin’s behalf. Instead of impeaching Trump, Pelosi tried to score political “points”, and helped waste an entire day of precious time, by calling him racist. She must know it’s against House rules. Pelosi is currently Trump’s biggest enabler. She has no place in the US Congress and should return home to Italy and spend her days doing Hail Marys with her rosary beads. C-Span didn’t make it easy to find the context for US Congressman Cleavers’ departure, either. After scrolling through seemingly endless closed caption text, there was no text by US Congressman Cleaver, and we even had to type his short statement (see above) from a separate video.

US “Congressman Cleaver’s Statement On Today’s Floor Debate
Jul 16, 2019 Press Release
(Washington, D.C.) – United States Representative Emanuel Cleaver, II (D-MO) released the following statement after relinquishing the chair during today’s floor debate, while presiding over the debate on the House resolution to condemn the President’s tweets:

“I want to thank Leader Hoyer for assuming the chair and reading the parliamentarian’s ruling following my abdication. Like the vast majority of Americans, I’ve grown increasingly frustrated with the childish rancor of our public discourse. Our inability to conduct ourselves in a civil and respectable fashion has paralyzed the most powerful government in the history of the world, and for what? A 10-second soundbite on prime time news and a few thousand twitter followers?

If this is what our government has come to, then we are in serious trouble as a nation. My frustration reflects that of my constituents and the American people as a whole. I have spent my entire life working with people of all faiths and stripes in an effort solve real-world problems with concrete solutions, but never have we been this divided and this unwilling to listen to countering opinions or accept objective truths. If we’re going to solve the cataclysmic challenge of climate change, the prodigious problem of income inequality or the evasive challenge of equal justice under the law, it is going to take all of us, Democrat and Republican, liberal and conservative, men and women, elders and youth.

I have unshakeable and eternal faith in what we can accomplish as a people, but we can only overcome these challenges as a union. I truly believe American democracy is the greatest experiment ever conducted by a society. However, a house divided against itself cannot stand, regardless of how strong the foundation. I call on all of my colleagues and all of America to listen more and talk less, to show compassion for those who are in pain, and to resist the temptation to fight when others wish to escalate.” ### https://cleaver.house.gov/media-center/press-releases/congressman-cleavers-statement-on-todays-floor-debate

In a vote of 240-187, the House passed a resolution condemning President Trump’s comments about four members of Congress, in which he told them to “go back” to the countries they came from. During debate on the resolution, Republicans asked that some of Speaker Pelosi’s words be removed from the record, and the House voted against that motion, 232-190. Also, the House passed debate rules for an upcoming resolution that finds Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with congressional subpoenas relating to the 2020 Census citizenship question. While Democrats spent around 8 hours (that could have been used impeaching him or passing a law forbidding Twitter and Facebook for official use, since they are private, and government records are supposed to be public), Trump doubled down on his comments and called them pro-Al Qaeda, etc. https://archive.li/woJ7b

Congressman Sean Duffy tweets on Congresswoman Omar:

Universities giving academic jobs to H1B non-Americans and leaving American academics out in the cold doesn’t help. They prefer to give jobs to H1Bs, who hate the United States, rather than giving them to Americans… We are partly reaping the consequences.
