Uranium One “Confidential Informant”
Provides No Evidence to Support GOP Claims of
“Quid Pro Quo” Between Clinton and Russia

Washington, D.C. (Mar. 8, 2018)— Today, Democratic staff from three committees—the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Committee on the Judiciary—provided to their respective Members an Interview Summary of their February 7, 2018, interview with an individual who, according to Republican lawmakers, previously provided them with “explosive” new evidence of a “quid pro quo” between former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Russian government to approve the Uranium One deal.

As the Interview Summary explains, the individual provided no evidence to substantiate Republican claims of a “quid pro quo” and no evidence that Secretary Clinton was involved in, or improperly influenced, the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States review of the Uranium One deal.

Democrats had requested repeatedly that the interview be transcribed, but Republicans refused, so Democratic staff compiled this summary.  The summary is being released publicly because Republican Members have already gone on national television to characterize their ex partecommunications with this individual and to make their unsubstantiated allegations.  Republicans withheld this individual from Democrats for more than three months after publicly launching their investigation, despite multiple requests for equal access.

The Republican claims had already been widely debunked, including by the Washington Post Fact Checker, PolitiFact, Fox News Anchor Shepard Smith, the conservative National Review, and even the Department of Justice under Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

The Oversight Committee previously investigated these claims in 2015 and 2016 and ended its investigation without issuing a report or identifying any evidence to support these claims. https://democrats-oversight.house.gov/sites/democrats.oversight.house.gov/files/2017-11-7.%20EEC%20to%20TG%20re.Uranium%20one.pdf
