Crimea isn’t Russian but was conquered by Russia multiple times: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2022/09/23/why-crimea-ukraine-is-scottish-not-russian-move-over-vladimir-here-come-the-scythians-3/ The Crimean War was fought (and won) against a belligerent Russia that was making international trade dangerous: “The treaty, signed on 30 March 1856 at the Congress of Paris, made the Black Sea neutral territory, closing it to all warships and prohibiting fortifications and the presence of armaments on its shores. Russian warships were banned from sailing the Black Sea, which greatly decreased Russian influence over the Black Sea trade…
The treaty reopened the Black Sea for international trade to be safe and effectual after both the naval warfare of the Crimean War and the presence of Russian warships had made trade difficult, including many trade disputes.…

The US is closer to mainland Russia than is Poland.
Canada is also in NATO. Canada has been a member since 1949. Greenland is part of Denmark so has been a member since 1949, as well.

Russia occupies more land area than any other country in the world. It’s also the least densely populated, apart from Australia. It’s one big mining/oil and gas camp. Before Ron DeSantis decided to toe the Russian Party line in true Leninist fashion, he observed that Russia was a gas station masquerading as a country. He must have never heard of Cuba or Alaska, either.

Russia’s encroaching on the entire world. Most of the so-called encroachment that Russia has whined about in recent years has to do with Russia’s occupation of Kaliningrad, since World War II, which is historic Germany. Russia’s turned it into a military enclave from which it menaces the Baltic and all of Europe. Russia and China are active all over Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa, as well.

From this map it is clear that the Russian Rulers were Imperial Conquerors. Not surprising that the Russian economy is built upon exploitation, sucking the vast resources of a vast hinterland to Moscow.
