Unfortunately there is no one explaining what we are facing today, as FDR did. However, his speech can help people to understand. Everyone needs to read it and/or listen to it. For all of the problems that it has today, America is more free than in 1940, when there was still Jim Crow-segregation in the south. Anyone who thinks otherwise, needs to read some basic history. Would Hitler have liberated Black Americans from Jim Crow-segregation? Clearly not. Our systems, however flawed, have the potential for “self-correction”, which is lacking in a dictatorship. Does anyone really think that Hitler should have been allowed to run amok for an additional twenty years until the US Civil Rights Act of 1964, the US Voting Rights Act of 1965, and school integration? That’s the illogical stance of many politicians and pundits today.
