Nov. 28, 2010: “The huge trove of documents released today by the whistle-blowing Website WikiLeaks reads like something out of a spy novel and lifts the curtain on the secret communications between Washington and U.S. diplomats stationed around the world.” https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wikileaks-releases-classified-diplomat-cables-us-state-department/story?id=12260376

It’s worth underlining that Assange is an Australian, literally from “down under”.

The Red Notice for the 39-year-old Australian, which was issued to law enforcement in all 188 INTERPOL member countries on 20 November, has now been made publicly available by INTERPOL following official authorization by Sweden.” See: “Sweden authorizes INTERPOL to make public Red Notice for WikiLeaks founder” 1 December 2010 https://www.interpol.int/en/News-and-Events/News/2010/Sweden-authorizes-INTERPOL-to-make-public-Red-Notice-for-WikiLeaks-founder

Another “eight-page document addressed to Ecuadorean lawmaker Paola Vintimilla lays out how WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange acquired Ecuadorean nationality, was named as a diplomat and was appointed to serve as the political counselor to the Ecuadorean Embassy in Moscow – only to see the whole thing fall apart when Britain vetoed his diplomatic status. The document is marked “confidential” but was made public at the Vintimilla’s insistence late Tuesday.” https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/5004881-Carta-Canciller

WikiLeaks’s spokesperson and conduit in Russia has been exposed in the Swedish media… Israel Shamir, a Jew who has converted to Orthodox Christianity and passionate antisemitism, and his son Johannes Wahlström…. Shamir was listed as a co-author of a story in Counterpunch [1], which suggested that the woman who brought a complaint of rape against Julian Assange was a CIA plant. But he has a longer and stranger past than this would suggest…Wahlström was paid by Sweden’s Aftonbladet “as a researcher and a consultant, because he has exclusive access to the WikiLeaks cable dump in Sweden and is the gatekeeper who doles out stories to favoured media partners. This use of freelance journalists is the model used by WikiLeaks in countries where it does not have a large and established media partner like the Guardian or Der Spiegel…”

Aided by Holocaust denier, Julian Assange sought Russian visa in 2010 Wikileaks founder gave instructions to embassy in London that documents be handled by his friend, fringe intellectual Israel Shamir” By RAPHAEL SATTER 17 September 2018, 3:30 pm https://web.archive.org/web/20180918121747/https://www.timesofisrael.com/aided-by-holocaust-denier-julian-assange-sought-russian-visa-in-2010/

Russia has suggested that Julian Assange should be awarded the Nobel peace prize, in an unexpected show of support from Moscow for the jailed WikiLeaks founder. In what appears to be a calculated dig at the US, the Kremlin urged non-governmental organisations to think seriously about “nominating Assange as a Nobel Prize laureate”….

Public and non-governmental organisations should think of how to help him,” the source from inside president Dmitry Medvedev’s office told Russian news agencies. Speaking in Brussels, where Medvedev was attending a Russia-EU summit yesterday, the source went on: “Maybe, nominate him as a Nobel Prize laureate.”. https://www.theguardian.com/media/2010/dec/09/julian-assange-nobel-peace-prize

Shamir is apparently fine with the Russian Empire. The “Empire” that he has in mind is the “Western Empire” (i.e. “western civilization”; the collective “west”) in contrast to the “Eastern Empire”/Russian Empire (i.e. Russia and those it and the USSR have subsidized). Assange, an Australian, seems to agree.

Excerpt from: “Israel Shamir and Julian Assange’s cult of machismo” By James Ball, Tue 8 Nov 2011 21.15 GMT: https://www.theguardian.com

Shamir wrote: “It is no coincidence that the enemies of Empire are all masculine males, be they Gaddafi, Castro, Chávez, Lukashenko [1], Putin – or Julian Assange. It appears the men have been targeted for elimination; the working ants need no sex.
[….]
Shamir’s “influence over WikiLeaks [2] and beyond is difficult to overestimate, and this relationship make his views more significant – and disturbing.

Shamir has a years-long friendship with Assange, and was privy to the contents of tens of thousands of US diplomatic cables months before WikiLeaks made public the full cache.

Such was Shamir’s controversial nature that Assange introduced him to WikiLeaks staffers under a false name. Known for views held by many to be antisemitic, Shamir aroused the suspicion of several WikiLeaks staffers – myself included – when he asked for access to all cable material concerning “the Jews”, a request which was refused.

When questions were asked about Shamir’s involvement with WikiLeaks, given his controversial background and unorthodox requests, we were told in no uncertain terms that Assange would not condone criticism of his friend. Instead, a mealy-mouthed statement [3] distancing WikiLeaks from its freelancers was issued. Still later, when damning evidence emerged [4] that Shamir had handed cables material to the dictator of Belarus – a man he holds in high esteem – to assist his persecution of opposition activists, Assange shamefully refused to investigate.

The two remain close. Shamir reveals in his latest piece that he has spoken (on friendly terms) with Assange just days before his hearing. There is also a strange resonance in the two men’s descriptions of women: Assange has referred to “timid” Guardian reporters failing his “masculinity test” [5], and said “Western culture seems to forge women that are valueless and inane.” [6]

So, what have “valueless and inane” women been doing to compare themselves with such pillars of masculine virtue as Lukaschenko, Castro or Gaddafi? One could start by looking within WikiLeaks itself.

While Assange’s moves have driven the organisation to the brink, women within WikiLeaks, such as Brazilian journalist Natalia Viana, have used the material to expose serious corruption across South America. Naomi Colvin, a UK resident, has been one of the most tireless campaigners for the Bradley Manning Support Network [7]. Several others, who have chosen not to reveal themselves in public, have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to help keep WikiLeaks going. Similarly, Bradley Manning himself, the alleged source of 2010’s astonishing WikiLeaks’ revelations, would also likely fall short of the masculinity standards set by Assange and Shamir…

None of these, though, stands accused of leaking material to dictators

Manning was already skeptical of the Iraq war and yet joined the military, according to this article! This makes it seem that spying/leaking was the agenda all along. Manning should have sorted and curated the documents, rather than share them with foreign nationals with questionable credentials and agendas. At the time, Bradley identified as a man. So, he should be used, especially for clarity. Bradley did go through a sex change (surgery and hormone treatment) and didn’t simply put on a dress and demand to be called a woman. Manning isn’t competing in women’s sports, so harm from the sex change and hormone treatment is only to himself/herself: Bradley (now Chelsea) Manning “moved with her [his] mother to Wales in 2001 after her [his] parents separated…” Manning’s “schooling there was also the source of a political awakening as she [he] studied American history and became skeptical of the American invasion of Iraq”. S/he “returned to the US in 2005 and said she [he] joined the military because of patriotism and the structure she had seen it give to her [his] father’s life. “I just felt like maybe I could make a difference, she [he] said. Statement on Cablegate
12 December 2010
The Wikileaks Cablegate release is being used by hundreds of journalistic and campaigning outlets around the world. There are now over 1,300 cables in the public domain, and hundreds of thousands more to follow.

As with any story of such magnitude, it is being used by governments and journalists alike: the Iranian government condemned Wikileaks as an American front organization; Chinese and Russian governments suggested Julian Assange should be awarded the Nobel, while Israel welcomed the Middle Eastern cables for revealing many nations share its concerns about Iran’s nuclear regime.

Some of the journalists, governments, and activists going through the Embassy Cables material hold extreme views on a variety of issues. Those views are not Wikileaks’ views. Wikileaks is an organization committed to transparency and accountability, and allowing whistleblowers to hold governments and corporations to account.

That is Wikileaks’ only agenda, and one it will continue to pursue relentlessly.” https://web.archive.org/web/20110227152424/http://wikileaks.ch/Statement-on-Cablegate.html
