25.01.2022 | 15:56
Stenbock House, 25 January 2022 – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez called Kaja Kallas today to probe our views on the security situation in Europe, strengthening the eastern flank of NATO, and supporting Ukraine.

“Russia is testing our unity – the unity of our democracies, the European Union, and NATO.

The current actions of Russia not only determine the future of Ukraine, but essentially require the exclusion of the Baltic states from NATO,” said Prime Minister Kallas.

“The Kremlin understands strength, which we can demonstrate if we remain united as allies and make a firm stand for our principles and values.”

“Ukraine is not alone and we must support Ukrainians in all possible ways,” said the prime minister.

“It is important to continue strengthening the eastern flank of NATO and the Allies play an important role here. We await Spaniards to join us in Ämari again, but we will also contribute more ourselves.

“We will allocate an additional 380 million euros in the coming years to strengthen our security – this will send a clear message that we take our security very seriously,” said Kallas.

Prime Minister Kaja Kallas welcomed the decision of Spain to contribute to the strengthening of the Black Sea region. The prime ministers also discussed preparations for the upcoming NATO summit in Madrid which will be held this summer.
