The Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians Tribal Chief Cyrus Ben just tested postive for Covid-19. He is their youngest elected chief and is in his early 40s. As he explains, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has just 11,109 members. They shut their casinos in mid-March, and more recently imposed a curfew. He notes his efforts to take every precaution at home and at work, and he still got the disease. And, the need to take this disease seriously, and that all it takes is one person to spread the disease to others.
His statement is written out along with the video here:
As can be seen, he has been taking the situation seriously.
While he doesn’t say it, it is clear that with a little over 11,000 members, their people and culture are at risk.
