Two court hearings in one day, hundreds of rubles in fines and three times 15 days of arrest. The trials of protesters against the integration with Russia continued in Vitsebsk and Minsk. Human rights activists claim that this is how the authorities are trying to eradicate protest sentiment in society in the year of the presidential election.

The prosecution of the defenders of the independence of Belarus continues: Yan Hryb, an engineer, teacher, member of the Belarusian Union of Writers, was tried in a Minsk court. The 83-year-old handicapped man was tried twice with a break of 45 minutes.

Yan Hryb was accused of participating in anti-integration rallies in Kastrychnitskaya Square in Minsk on December 20 and 21. One and the same riot police officer, Vital Myazhonny, testified against him. Judges sentenced the pensioner to two fines of 810 BYN.

“These trials are an indecent circus. The judges are serfs. They were told to charge people a sum, and a considerable sum at that — they don’t fine people of less than 30 basic units, you see,” said outraged Yan Hryb.https://belsat.eu/en/news/83-year-old-independence-advocate-tried-twice-in-one-day/

Maintaining independence is actually good for President Lukashenka. If Belarus were no longer a country, what would he be President of? Maybe Putin ordered these trials, arrests, and fines?
