Qamishli is in Syria along the border with Turkey. Christians and Christianity are being exterminated in the Middle East and no one cares. Trump pretended to care, before he was elected, which makes his betrayal even greater.

The Christian component in the city of Qamishli have condemned the recent Turkish threats to launch a military assault against northeastern Syria, considering it as a danger to all components in the region.

Turkey’s Erdogan, has announced last Saturday, that his country “will carry out air and ground operations in northeastern Syria to establish peace,” he said.

Sanharib Barsoum, the co-chair of the Syriac Union Party, has denounced the Turkish threats to invade north and eastern Syria, considering them a great danger to all components of the region in general and the Syriac people and Christians in particular.

Barsoum noted: “The Turkish regime is based on armed extremist and radical groups that commit crimes against civilians and humanity”, pointing out that such threats endanger the life of Syriac people in the region.”

He called for the U.S.-led Global Coalition to put an end to those threats and force the Turkish side to commit to the terms of the security mechanism.

Rama Kali, a citizen of Qamishli, also condemned the Turkish threats, noting that the people of north and eastern Syria live in “peace”, and that Turkey’s assault on the region would create a state of instability and confusion between the components, as it will affect the civil peace. Kali added that Turkey has been following the same policy for decades.

For his part, Malik Hanna, an official of the Syriac Cross in Qamishli, said: “We, as Christians and Syriacs have been exposed for a hundred years to the massacres by the Ottoman Turks, as the same mentality exists now.” Hanna explained that Christians will be the initial target of the Turkish state, as it did in Afrin region, where churches were targeted in the first place.

He added that north and eastern Syria also includes IDPs from different governorates and regions of Syria, as well as Iraqi refugees, saying: “The Turkish invasion will put many lives at risk.”

In turn, Hanna Somi, a member of the Syriac Cultural Association, stressed that Turkey’s repeating history claiming different reasons, pointing out that the Syriac, Armenian and Assyrian people had suffered by the Ottomans’ interventions in their villages and regions in Turkey more than a hundred year ago, where it had killed their parents and grandparents.

Furthermore, Somi said that the peoples of all components in the region, are “united against the escalations of the Turkish state that appear from time to time,” noting that “it’s nothing new or even frightening, because people of the region have been withstanding the war for more than eight years,” he added. https://npasyria.com/en/blog.php?id_blog=965&sub_blog=13&name_blog=Christians+of+Qamishli+denounce+the+Turkish+threats%3A
