“UPDATE: OPERATION OF THE MORGANZA FLOODWAY POSTPONED
Published June 3, 2019
NEW ORLEANS – Based on the current forecast, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is delaying operation of the Morganza Floodway until June 9, 2019.
The Mississippi River is predicted to reach 60 feet at the structure on June 12, 2019 instead of the previously forecasted June 9, 2019.
The Army Corps of Engineers only intends to operate the structure when needed as to not put additional water into the Atchafalaya Basin.
We will continue to monitor the forecast daily. Updates will be provided on Facebook at facebook.com/usacenola, Twitter at twitter.com/teamneworleans and at http://www.usace.army.mil. ” https://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/Media/News-Releases/Article/1864707/update-operation-of-the-morganza-floodway-postponed/
Bonnet Carre Spillway was opened on May 10th: https://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/Missions/Mississippi-River-Flood-Control/Bonnet-Carre-Spillway-Overview/Spillway-Operation-Information This is adding influx of fresh water into the Mississippi Sound and apparently killing dolphins. The alternative is opening the Morganza or potential levee failures along the petrochemical corridor, which includes Waterford Nuclear Power Station.
Nothing’s going to stop Old Man River. The Mississippi’s going to go where it wants, and this means that it will go to the Atchafalaya. The only question is will they hurry and ease it over, or they will allow catastrophic dam and levee failures to do it. Old Man River will still be going when everyone living is dead.
