Spain is apparently a not so former fascist country, which apparently hasn’t recovered from Franco’s dictatorship. Culture is slow and difficult to change, especially when opponents are jailed, sent into exile, or otherwise silenced. Franco didn’t die until 20 November 1975.

ACN reports that five more Catalan leaders were put in jail. This means that there are now nine pro-independence Catalan politicians in jail, awaiting trial. These include the Catalan presidential candidate Jordi Turull.

Marta Rovira, a leader of a pro-independence party, opted to go into exile. Now seven politicians are seeking asylum outside of Spain, including Catalan President Puigdemont.

As of Friday, 25 Catalan government officials are to be put on trial for their role in the independence movement.

The 25 officials seem to be lower level officials, in addition to the 9 leaders in jail and 7 in exile.

Spain’s ruling People’s Party was created by fascists (Franco regime members). Thus, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that they have been acting like fascists. “The People’s Party was a re-foundation in 1989 of the People’s Alliance(Alianza Popular, AP), a party led and founded by Manuel Fraga Iribarne, a former Minister of the Interior and Minister of Tourism during Francisco Franco’s dictatorship.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People%27s_Party_(Spain). The party exists in Catalonia but isn’t very popular at all!
