Former Economic Development Minister Ulyukaev asks for warm clothes, food and medicine, 13:08 / 18.12.2017

Moscow Public Monitoring Commission (PMC) denied the refusal of a convicted official to receive a parcel.

Executive secretary of the Moscow Public Monitoring Commission Ivan Melnikov denied information that the ex-Minister of Economic Development, convicted for 8 years of a strict-regime colony for bribing, refused to receive parcels to the remand prison, TASS reports. According to Melnikov, Ulyukaev needs warm things, products and medicines.

Melnikov said that during their meeting in the pre-trial detention center the ex-Minister said that he wants to get fresh cottage cheese, homemade cakes, fruits and vegetables from relatives. However, the internal regulations of prisons prohibit baking and cheese, so Ulyukaev will be able to receive only vegetables and fruits.

Also, according to the PMC secretary, the convict needs warm things. In particular, a jacket and underwear.

In the pre-trial detention center the ex-Minister was taken without any belongings. In addition, Ulyukaev will be given drugs prescribed by the doctor at large.

Earlier, the Izvestia newspaper reports referring to deputy chairman of the Moscow PMC Eva Merkacheva that Ulyukaev refused to receive parcels.

On December 15, the Moscow Zamoskvoretsky Court found Alexey Ulyukaev guilty of taking a bribe on an especially large scale. He was convicted of a bribe of $2 million, given by Rosneft head Igor Sechin as a reward for an affirmative opinion that allowed the company to acquire a state-owned stake in Bashneft. Ulyukaev was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment in a strict-security prison and a fine of 130 million rubles ($2.2m).
