Admit nothing, deny everything, launch counterattack,“is Roger Stone’s philosophy.[1]

Sound familiar? Deja-vu all over again for a reason. In fact, this blogger only found out about Stone by doing a search based on Trump’s behavior: deny and counterattack. Stone started his official dirty tricks career under Richard Nixon, which is why those who covered Watergate find it so familiar.

Stone tried to get Trump to run as early as 1999. Stone was first an official and then a shadow advisor to Trump in the last Presidential campaign. Stone reportedly has a friend in London who was in contact with Julian Assange of Wikileaks. Thus, the timing of the latest Wikileaks dump, in conjunction with Trump’s counterattack tweet, should truly come as no surprise.

Trump mentor and lawyer, as well as mafia lawyer, Roy Cohn, who had run McCarthy’s witch-hunt in the 50s, introduced Stone to Trump – decades ago. And, either Cohn or Stone introduced Paul Manafort to Trump.

Cohn, Stone and Manafort have apparently been lead pitbulls in the destruction of American politics and by extension the destruction of the American economy. If you were alive and have seen the devastation wreaked upon free speech and the economy starting with Roy Cohn’s attacks upon dissent, Nixon’s dirty tricks, and the destruction of the US economy, along with hope, under Reagan and Bush, then you understand. [1a]. If you are of a certain age and think that these were the good guys, then either you were lucky, or you fell for the dirty tricks and lies. They are also behind related environmental destruction. Reagan even yanked Carter’s solar panels from the Whitehouse. Had Congress given Carter the funding for renewables he requested, we wouldn’t be talking oil and gas or nuclear anymore.

By destroying dissent and replacing it with confusing vipers’ nests of lies and throwing attention to trivial matters they have kept America from debating policy matters, which matter, in an intelligent way. As their dirty tricks are rooted in easy, simplistic, cold-blooded lies, they have all created spin-off clones of themselves over the course of the last decades. Trump is apparently an early spin-off clone – student to Roy Cohn, Roger Stone and Paul Manafort. Bannon and Conway have learned these easy devious tricks somewhere along the way. Where did Cohn, Stone, and Manafort learn to lie and play dirty tricks? While they appear to have come naturally to Stone, they probably were learned by all three in a mafia milieu. Mafiosi have kids. Even if their parents weren’t mafiosi, and one suspects that Manafort’s father had ties with the mafia, they may have been socialized into deviance by the kids of mafiosi.

How have they gotten by with it? Over the last decades Americans have had to work harder for less. Up until recently, it took effort to find information. Americans tend to be a nation of doers, rather than readers, anyway. The vast majority, at least up until recently, were honest and sometimes naive. Americans were taught to take people at their word.

Stone used to have a lobbying firm with former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort. Manafort spent almost a decade traveling to the Ukraine working for and with (pro-Russian) Viktor Yanukovych. Manafort and Stone’s lobbying firm Black, Manafort, Stone and Kelly advised dictators such as the Philippines’ Marcos and Zaire’s (now DRC) Mobutu and guerrilla leader Jonas Savimbi, trying to make them more palatable to Congress to obtain funding.[2] Manafort was contacted to help Yanukovych in 2005 by Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Ahmetov. Ahmetov was from Donetsk, “the Russian-oriented heavy-industry east of the country.” He considered Yanukovych the best for his business interests[3]

Paul Manafort has lived in Trump Tower since 2006. Bloomberg says that it was in the name of a limited liability company and was only put in Manafort’s name in 2015.[4] Russian oligarch Deripaska was rumored to have bought it for him.

The Miami Herald outed Roger Stone’s connection to Assange.
Stone’s tweet tells a lot about his character, doesn’t it? Makes Trump look like a regular sweetheart.

Trump mentor and lawyer, and mafia lawyer Roy Cohn led McCarthy’s witch-hunts: silencing dissent and people he didn’t like by making accusations of communism and homosexuality. How many of these charges were trumped up? Most? Cohn was a closet homosexual – some say pedophile – who died of AIDs. Was he also a Russian spy sent to undermine US democracy? Cohn is probably the person who introduced the concept of black-mail/accusations of sexual deviance – however defined – in order to control politicians.

Decades later, Mr. Cohn’s influence on Mr. Trump is unmistakable…
“I hear Roy in the things he says quite clearly,” said Peter Fraser, who as Mr. Cohn’s lover for the last two years of his life spent a great deal of time with Mr. Trump. “That bravado, and if you say it aggressively and loudly enough, it’s the truth — that’s the way Roy used to operate to a degree, and Donald was certainly his apprentice
” [5]

They came together by chance one night at Le Club, a hangout for Manhattan’s rich and famous. Trump introduced himself to Cohn, who was sitting at a nearby table, and sought advice: How should he and his father respond to Justice Department allegations that their company had systematically discriminated against black people seeking housing?…. Cohn soon represented Trump in legal battles, counseled him about his marriage and introduced Trump to New York power brokers, money men and socialites./ Cohn also showed Trump how to exploit power and instill fear through a simple formula: attack, counterattack and never apologize.” [6]

Post-McCarthy Cohn worked as a New York lawyer for Trump, as well as mobsters Tony Tony Salerno, Carmine Galante, and John Gotti; Studio 54 owners Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, and more. He was a founding member of the John Birch Society [7]

Through the John Birch Society one ties into both Stalin’s Russia and the oil industry via the Koch family [8] Putin’s grandfather was a cook for Stalin. [9] Stalin bringing the Koch brothers’ father to Russia sounds remarkably like Putin bringing Tillerson-Exxon to Russia. We still don’t know which is the dog and which is the tail. And, this blogger continues to suspect an international crime syndicate as being at the core of everything: Russian mafia, probably in tandem with Italian mafia. The old Jewish mafia of Meyer Lansky fame, with its roots mostly in the old Russian Empire, is said to have merged with the Russian mafia, after the fall of the Soviet Union – or did they merge earlier? Lansky was born in the Russian Empire, now Belarus. [10] Lansky had shares in the old Sands Hotel and Casino. The new Sands Hotel and Casino is owned by Trump mega-donor (over $20 million) Sheldon Adelson. [11]

Stone was hired by Jeb Magruber to work for Richard Nixon’s “Committee to Re-elect the President.” [12] He appeared a “natural” going back to the 1968 campaign: “Stone’s political career began in earnest with activities such as contributing money to a possible rival of Nixon in the name of the Young Socialist Alliance — then slipping the receipt to the Manchester Union-Leader. He also got a spy hired by the Hubert Humphrey campaign who became Humphrey’s driver. By day, Stone was officially a scheduler in the Nixon campaign. “By night, I’m trafficking in the black arts. Nixon’s people were obsessed with intelligence.“[13] (1968 was Nixon vs. Humphrey and 1972 Nixon vs. McGovern). Stone hired someone to infiltrate the McGovern campaign. When his involvement in dirty tricks was revealed during the 1973 Watergate hearings he lost his job with Senator Robert Dole. Stone then co-founded the National Conservative Political Action Committee, which supported Chuck Grassley, and Dan Quayle, among others. [14]

After Nixon won the 1972 presidential election, Stone worked for the administration in the Office of Economic Opportunity… In 1976 he worked in Ronald Reagan’s campaign for president, and in 1977 became national chairman of the Young Republicans.” [13]

His (now former?) colleague, Manafort, was mentored by James A. Baker III. Paul Manafort ran Reagan’s Southern operation, which trafficked in language tied to racism/desegregation – busing, state’s rights, etc., and which he nastily started in Philadelphia Mississippi where Civil Rights activists had been killed in 1964. [15,16]

Stone and Manafort ran Reagan’s transition team and “stocked the administration, distributing jobs across the agencies and accumulating owed favors that would provide the basis for their new lobbying business. They opened their doors in 1981. One of the nasties that their PR firm elected was Phil Gramm.[16]

Trump became a client of Stone and Manafort’s firm. Trump wanted to go after Native American gaming, which he felt were rivals to his Atlantic City casinos and he did. Trump and Stone were behind a front group named the New York Institute for Law and Society and were fined $250,000 and required to publicly apologize for attack ads subsequent to an investigation by then Governor George Pataki. [17]

In the late 1980s, Manafort was criticized for using his connections at HUD to ensure funding for a $43 million rehabilitation of dilapidated housing in Seabrook, N.J. Manafort’s firm received a $326,000 fee for its work in getting HUD approval of the grant largely through personal influence with Deborah Gore Dean, an executive assistant to former HUD Secretary Samuel R. Pierce, Jr.” [18] David Cordish, whose son Reed Cordish is a Trump advisor, worked in HUD under both Carter and Reagan.

The Manafort-Stone consulting firm’s audacity in the HUD scandal, and hearings, apparently facilitated their move to advising dictators. They reportedly promised back door access to US government officials.[19]

Franklin Foer (2016) pointed out that it is difficult to find out who pays Manafort, due to loopholes in the law. He says that “Like Henry Kissinger, Manafort can claim that he merely “consults” with foreign governments, relieving him of the legal burden of announcing his benefactors“. And, that, in 2005, the person running McCain’s presidential campaign was Rick Davis, a partner to Manafort. While one group of McCain aides tried to get McCain to fire Rick Davis, since McCain supported Ukrainian democracy, in the end he didn’t. McCain aides even advised him that it was rumored that Russian oligarch “Deripaska had purchased an apartment in Trump Tower for Davis and Manafort.” [20]. (Recall that Kissinger was lurking about recently, pushing for Tillerson, etc.)

Davis and Manafort seem to have scammed the Russian Oligarch Deripaska, or to have been accused of it, in a lengthy scheme which can be read about at Washington Post, Bloomberg, Slate, etc. [21] The lawsuit on the case is here: https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/2814130/Pericles-Winding-Up-Petition.pdf

Foer (2016) informs us that “Deripaska wasn’t the only dubious oligarch to invest with Manafort. He orchestrated a major deal with a Ukrainian called Dmitry Firtash.” [20] Foer directs us to Reuters, which in turn directs us to a December 10, 2008 US diplomatic cable via Wikileaks: “Summary and Comment: Controversial Ukrainian oligarch Dmytro Firtash, best known as co-owner of gas intermediary RosUkrEnergo (RUE), called upon the Ambassador on December 8. Firtash did not explicitly state why he requested the meeting, nor did he ask the USG for anything, but he spoke at length about his business and politics in a visible effort to improve his image with the USG. The soft-spoken billionaire, arguably one of Ukraine’s most powerful people, expressed strong support for President Yushchenko and equally strong contempt for Prime Minister Tymoshenko… In a lengthy monolog, Firtash described his evolution as a businessman from his beginnings as a food trader to the creation of RUE… He acknowledged ties to Russian organized crime figure Seymon Mogilevich, stating he needed Mogilevich’s approval to get into business in the first place. He was adamant that he had not committed a single crime when building his business empire, and argued that outsiders still failed to understand the period of lawlessness that reigned in Ukraine after the collapse of the Soviet Union…” [22]

According to Reuters, November 26, 2014, Firtash and Gazprom had a scam going similar to what’s been legalized again on public lands under the Trump administration. Gazprom sold the gas to him significantly under its market value, allowing him to make huge profits. Reuters explains that “The Firtash story is more than one man’s grab for riches. It demonstrates how Putin uses Russian state assets to create streams of cash for political allies, and how he exported this model to Ukraine in an attempt to dominate his neighbour, which he sees as vital to Russia’s strategic interests. With the help of Firtash, Yanukovich won power and went on to rule Ukraine for four years“. [23]

Along with developer Arthur Cohen, who Foer calls “a longtime Trump Family aide“, Manafort and Firtash planned a project called the Bulgari Tower at the old Drake hotel. [24] This is another lengthy and complex story, beyond the scope of this blog post summary, but which is clearly explained by Foer, and others, online.

In an article called “Lawsuit: Trump Aide Funneled Mob-Linked Ukrainian Oligarch’s Fortune into U.S. Real Estate: Suit dismissed in 2014 highlighted financial activities of former Yanukovych adviser Paul Manafort“, March 31, 2016, Lachlan Markay states that a “U.S. federal judge dismissed the suit in 2014, saying its racketeering allegations involved conduct in foreign countries that was outside the jurisdiction of U.S. courts.” A copy of the complaint may be found here: https://www.scribd.com/mobile/document/319257946/Yulia-Tymoshenko-v-Dmytro-Firtash-Paul-Manafort-et-al and here: http://freebeacon. com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/manafort-complaint-2.pdf [Link intentionally broken. KIMBA M. WOOD, District Judge:
Plaintiff Yulia Tymoshenko, former Prime Minister of Ukraine, and Plaintiffs Scott Snizek and Christy Gregory Rullis have filed a Third Amended Complaint (“TAC”) against Ukrainian businessman Dmytro Firtash, several Ukrainian associates, and a number of U.S. individuals and corporations alleging that Defendants’ conduct violated the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (“RICO”), 18 U.S.C. §§ 1961–1968, as well as state law.

Several U.S. Defendant corporations and citizens have moved to dismiss the TAC with prejudice pursuant to Federal Rules of Civil Procedure 12(b)(2) and 12(b)(6). For the reasons set forth below, the Court GRANTS the motion to dismiss the TAC and DENIES Plaintiffs leave to amend their complaint for a fourth time.

What follows is an abbreviated summary of the history of the case and the factual background. A more detailed discussion of this background can be found in Tymoshenko v. Firtash, 57 F. Supp. 3d 311, 314–319 (S.D.N.Y. 2014) (Wood, J.) (“Tymoshenko II”). (Case 1:11-cv-02794-KMW Document 131 Filed 09/18/15 Page 1 of 15

Foer (2016) says that this “case raised all manner of troubling questions, and reinforced an old one: Why would Paul Manafort so consistently do the bidding of oligarchs loyal to Vladimir Putin?

The apparent answer may simply be that few have that sort of money. Russia has the largest land-area in the world, and it is full of natural resources. Furthermore, mafia are often called “organized crime” because they don’t exist without the corruption of government officials.

The common sense answer to what lies behind Trump is known as quickly as one learns about his New York construction projects and casinos – mafia. The question is if he knows, or has chosen not to see the obvious. An additional question is what type of mafia. The other common sense answer comes from knowing who has obscene amounts of money and likes to flaunt that money? Russian oligarchs. Less obvious is investment in real estate to hide dirty money.

However, this blog post is about the ideological masters who brought us Trump and over half a century horror, starting with Roy Cohn’s often trumped up charges, which made generations fear politics. Trumped up charges and other dirty tricks are also why it is almost impossible to get decent people to go into politics.

Who ran Putin’s campaign?

While this blog post was being written, Politico .com reported: “Authorities looked into Manafort protégé: An associate of an ex-Trump campaign chairman is suspected of connections to Russian intelligence.” by Kenneth P. Vogel and David Stern, 03/08/17 06:23 PM EST: “The operative, Konstantin Kilimnik, came under scrutiny from officials at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the State Department partly because of at least two trips he took to the U.S. during the presidential campaign, according to three international political operatives familiar with the agencies’ interest in Kilimnik.” They add Kilimnik, a Russian Ukrainian binational is said to be behind the more lenient view toward Russia in the Republican Platform.
