These images or something similar will probably stay on top until a) pro-nuclear people volunteer to work at nuclear waste sites (WIPP, Fukushima, Hanford, etc.) in droves, and b) the nuclear industry is shut down. Then, after b), there will still be the problem of a) the nuclear waste to be secured. We live on borrowed time. Let’s shut the nuclear industry down now!

Like a handful of battles in American history, the defeat of 12 companies of Seventh Cavalry by Lakota (Sioux), Cheyenne, and Arapaho warriors rose beyond its military significance to the level of myth.http://www.nps.gov/libi/indian-memorial-at-the-little-bighorn.htm

Congress, Obama, continue to stab the American people in the back. Fast Track Passed.

First they came …” is a famous statement and provocative poem written by Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis’ rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group. Many variations and adaptations in the spirit of the original have been published in the English language. It deals with themes of persecution, guilt and responsibility.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came_…

Fast Track Passed. Beware! Unlabeled Radioactive Food Coming your way! With the possible exception of Japan, which may be losing its Fukushima rice in exchange for Arkansas rice. The Japanese should be alert, however. TPP may force them to increase their food radiation allowance from 100 Bq/kg to 1000 Bq/kg as per WHO-FAO rules.

Get your non-GMO seeds now and make friends with a local farmer you trust quick!

You gotta give it to Haitians. They aren’t dumb. Haitians got mad when Japan tried to send them radioactive rice shortly after Fukushima. But, Obama says – bring it on! Poison the people and he’ll just bring in slaves from Malaysia by fast-tracking TISA (Trade in Services). Besides, isn’t Obama’s homeland of Kenya getting a new wind farm?

Oh, yes, let’s have more defective air bags too! Whatever happened to Japan? They used to do everything well.

Better regulations in Oklahoma to stop the earthquakes? Won’t be happening unless Fast-track is ruled unconstitutional!

Yesterday’s ruling appears to be of groundbreaking importance for nuclear liability law. This is especially true for Common Law jurisdictions where precedent is most important. It is one of the most important news items this blog has covered, and perhaps the most important. Boycott Dow Chemical – they refuse to pay property damages and instead keep victims in court for a quarter of a century!

US NRC Comment Deadline TONIGHT, One Minute to Midnight

New Posts: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/06/22/no-dose-of-radiation-is-safe-for-the-eyes-any-dose-can-cause-cataracts-usnrc-comment-deadline-today-11-59-pm-ny-dc-et-one-minute-to-midnight/
(Today’s update, 22 June, is below this reminder)

US NRC Comment Deadline on “Radiation Protection” TONIGHT, 11.59 pm (one minute to midnight) NY-DC (ET). Comment here: http://www.regulations.gov/#!documentDetail;D=NRC-2009-0279-0098 (Remember to put the comment ID: NRC-2009-0279-0098; Comment may be short and also anonymous. Take a screen shot for the record. If your comment is too long it will have to be uploaded as a pdf. Short and to the point is easiest. It needs to be in your own words or they may not count it. They don’t count repeats.)

Tell the US NRC that it is not acceptable to emit radionuclides by concentration (dilution) into air and water! They must have actual limits and preferably emit nothing at all!

Also, how many cancers do you accept? A public exposure of 100 mrem (1 mSv) per year is an exposure induced cancer risk of 1 per 100 or greater over a lifetime. The ICRP, which they are considering coming in line with, says 0.1 mSv for long-lived radionuclides. This is 1 per 1000 – still too high. Both of these ignore the build-up in the environment, which means the exposure will be higher. They also ignore the high levels allowed in US food.

The dose for workers and worker eyes must come down. This is especially important for pregnant workers. No more radiation must be allowed after pregnancy is declared. Both the US NRC and the ICRP allow additional radiation after pregnancy is declared. Cancer risks in utero start at 5 to 10 mSv. In some radiation environments the baby will get more than the mother. Speak up for the helpless, unborn.

At least some nuclear workers are forced into the work due to welfare to work programs.

Birth control should be required for women workers and vasectomies for male workers to keep unborn babes from being damaged by radiation. Those who have not had their two children should not be forced into nuclear work by welfare to work programs.

The original list of questions to be answered is found here. It is now difficult to find: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2014/07/25/2014-17252/radiation-protection There have been several extensions so it may have been accidentally quasi lost (or not).

Stonehenge close

New Stonehenge sunset alignment theory ‘shown to be correct’

Archaeologists believe it was built anywhere from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. Radiocarbon dating in 2008 suggested that the first stones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC,whilst another theory suggests that bluestones may have been raised at the site as early as 3000 BC.

In the US, ISL Uranium Mining uses either injection wells or spraying radium on the ground (land-application).
All isotopes of radium are highly radioactive, with the most stable isotope being radium-226, which has a half-life of 1600 years and decays into radon gas.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radium
Pu-239 has a half-life of 24,000 years
Compare to Stonehenge 4,000 to 5,000 years old. Pu-239 half-life is six times greater…

While the Reuters title “Moment of truth nears for nuclear waste time bomb” is true, the rest is false. There is no solution in sight for nuclear waste. The closest to a legitimate one is the granite one in Finland, but it will have to be pumped forever to keep dry, and monitored to reduce corrosion. If not, it will fill with water and most likely leach into the ocean. The ones in France and Switzerland are political choices – burial in mud is no solution. They are simply picking on rural, underpopulated, areas. The French one at Bure is clay on top of hot springs! The one proposed in Switzerland is in mud and in a rural area near the nuclear reactors. That flatland area will be filling up with people soon. That’s the sort of stupidity you get when people attend school for only 9 years; have endless holidays and no interest in learning, nor common sense. Common sense is actually the most important. See: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/05/22/are-we-ruled-by-nuclear-cats/

A child knows that clay becomes soft and unstable when wet. And, that it shrinks and cracks when dry and expands when wet. Residents near the proposed French nuclear waste facility in Bure France have demonstrated that within 16 minutes the “argillite” clay (mudstone) proposed for storage dissolves into gravel clumps. This is because it is hard materials held together by soft materials.
Bure argillite mudstone dryBure Argillite Mudstone after 16 min is gravel
Images from video link at http://www.villesurterre.eu

Switzerland is also proposing a “self-sealing” opalinus clay, which they claim will seal in the nuclear waste. These are sometimes called mudstone or clay stone but they aren’t really stone. What is promoted as self-healing and self-sealing, whether clay or salt, is actually what will make keeping the facility tunnels open problematic. Facility collapse before or upon closure is also problematic and will lead to water intrusion, leaching of radionuclides, and probable explosions and possible fires. Nuclear waste must be sealed, monitored, ventilated and retrievable. None of this is possible in a collapsed facility. Self-sealing rock formations have constituted a major challenge for tunnel construction in Switzerland itself. And, a permanent waste facility is tunnels, after all.

NB: Unfortunately the TPP Kill Bill which will allow the dumping of unlabeled radioactive Japanese food on the American people, and other atrocities, isn’t dead yet. The Republican leadership may revive and try to run it through as soon as Tuesday.

The announced return of Fukushima area evacuees will lead to many cancers and deaths. Note that it is “part of a plan to cut compensation payouts“, according to Reuters. It also sets a bad precedent. If the TPP sees the light of day Japanese (and probably non-Japanese) nuclear operators will evoke this in other member countries. Returning to 20 mSv means that in 5 years one in 100 or more will be at risk for getting cancer. For 50 mSv the one in one hundred exposure is hit after only two years. The risk will continue to rise as long as they remain. This excludes the risk from contaminated food.

TPP means Radioactive Food Dumping by Japan: Unlabeled Fukushima Food Coming your way if TPP isn’t stopped!
(Unless, of course, you are in Japan, in which case you will be rid of some radioactive food!)
Nihonbashi bridge in Edo, by Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾北斎) (1760–1849)

One of the most frightening things is that the secretive Fast-Track TPP will allow Japan to dump its radioactive food on the US (and Australia, New Zealand and Canada), and reportedly there will be no labels to identify its origin as Japan. Any country who signs onto the TPP and has weaker standards than Japan will be impacted, but the US has the weakest standards of all.

The US allows 15x more radiation in its food than Japan. Australia, New Zealand and Canada allow 10x more radiation in food than Japan. It’s clear where Japan’s radioactive food will be going. It will very literally clean up their soil. TEPCO reported that Fukushima continues to emit extremely high levels of radiation into the air and not just into the water.

This is probably why they have hired so many US lobbyists for the TPP deal, with a particular focus on agriculture, according to “The Hill“: “Japan launches major blitz on trade“, Apr 28, 2015.

Will Japan pay for the healthcare costs incurred by their radioactive food exports?

Europe would be indirectly tied into TPP through a US-Europe trade deal. The Ukraine, like Japan, allows “only” 100 Bq/kg of radiation in its food, which is 1/6th of that allowed in Europe. How much radioactive food has, or has not, the Ukraine exported?

Beware “Clearpath” is lying and calling nuclear “clean energy”, all while also allegedly promoting renewables. Nothing is dirtier and more dangerous than nuclear. Clearpath founder’s reported backing of Lindsay Graham of MOX pork fame was a clue. He’s backing Bush III too.
