These images or something similar will probably stay on top until a) pro-nuclear people volunteer to work at nuclear waste sites (WIPP, Fukushima, Hanford, etc.) in droves, and b) the nuclear industry is shut down. Then, after b), there will still be the problem of a) the nuclear waste to be secured. We live on borrowed time. Let’s shut the nuclear industry down now!

Mud Lake Idaho and INL snow geese dead
Mud Lake-Dead Snow Geese in relation to Idaho National (Nuclear) Lab, where they do spent fuel testing, among other things

The timeline and location suggests that the “poisoning” of the geese may have to do with the testing of French nuclear fuel at the Idaho National Lab, and not as alleged in the article below.

China has a death wish, it seems. They know very well what crap they have been sold for nuclear reactors and plug on, as though nuclear itself isn’t bad enough.

Will the new British Government cut the nuclear subsidies or only wind? They probably have enough cow shit and other farm waste to make a go on biofuel. There is also hydro-tidal. And, wind with no subsidies.

May 27th Deadline to Comment on new US EPA rules re In Situ Leach (ISL aka ISR) uranium mines. The new rules are supposed to require uranium mining companies to restore the water to its previous state or to the EPA clean water rules. This means that if the aquifer were initially cleaner than the EPA rules – even if the EPA rules change – that the post-mining aquifer would not be restored to its original state. Furthermore, there appear to still be loopholes in the law. Also it is unclear if application of radium to the land is going to still be allowed. This comment period was extended, it seems, because Cameco uranium (from Canada) requested an extension. They are worried that it might cost them money to clean up some of the mess they make on US land. Russian State owned Rosatom also mines uranium in the US as Uranium One. http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;rpp=100;so=DESC;sb=docId;po=0;D=EPA-HQ-OAR-2012-0788 https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2015/01/26/2015-00276/health-and-environmental-protection-standards-for-uranium-and-thorium-mill-tailings

11.59 pm Washington DC TODAY DEADLINE for both the plastic pipes at Callaway in Missouri and hot shutdown for Arkansas. Hot shutdown is higher pressure and increases risk of reactor pressure vessel (RPV) failure from Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) and the likelihood that a nuclear event-accident will get totally out of control. There are no benefits to hot shutdown. Essential Water Supply using plastic pipes, which would melt in a fire, is one of the more stupid things which the very stupid US NRC has come up with.

Both are at this link and ID no.

Literally life or death comment periods coming up for the US NRC. Also, the US EPA on water restoration for ISL uranium mining. Here are some life or death NRC deadlines:
NRC-2014-0261 List of Approved Spent Fuel Storage Casks – NAC International MAGNASTOR Cask System, Amendment No. 5 05/15/2015
NRC-2009-0279 Radiation Protection 06/22/2015

The “protection” one is about how much radiation they can expose you to – if cataracts are ok, etc. “Effluents” is how much radioactive material they can dump into the environment!

Arkansas Nuclear One Public Hearing is Tuesday Night.

Remember to comment re Nuclear Pressure Vessel Embrittlement NUREG by 11.59 pm (one minute to midnight) Tuesday night Washington DC time. It is easy and can be anonymous.

Also there is an environmental impact statement deadline for the same time.

Be certain to save-take a screen shot of your receipts. Be certain and put the ID number so they have no excuses to lose them. In at least one instance the NRC official count was 16 comments re Holtec, whereas it is believed that there were over 100 comments. It has gone into the official Federal Register as only 16. The comments are public record and for any surviving generations to know that people cared. They should not be lost-destroyed. They are our letters to the future. You can read comments from the 1970s online. They are also to be a thorn in the side of the NRC.

These two posts are to help with the embrittlement issue. The second is a new press release by Beyond Nuclear on the topic with interesting insights. They were recently in court with the same topic. https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/05/11/nuclear-pressure-vessel-embrittlement-us-nrc-dangerous-games-comment-deadline-tuesday-12-may-at-11-59-pm-eastern-time/

Why would they put dangerous piping and all the other crazy stuff? Well, the US nuclear industry is not like other industries, they aren’t really held liable, so they have no incentive to do what’s right, except ethics, which they clearly don’t have or they wouldn’t be involved in nuclear in the first place: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/price-anderson-act-billions-in-bailout-for-nuclear-disasters/
The big question is why the US NRC is the nuclear utilities’ jump and fetch dog?

It’s important to recall that it’s not just thermal shock which can cause the reactor pressure vessel to fail. And, it’s not just neutrons which do the damage. There is also hydrogen attack, corrosion, and substandard materials. Any, a combination, or all of these things together can lead to failure at any temperature. Although pressurized nuclear reactors are more at risk, all are at risk.

There’s also a 14 May comment deadline on the risk of melting, ruptured, and/or flying (once broken) plastic essential service water (ESW) pipes in Missouri. Hint: They are supposed to be metal.
