This top image or something similar will probably stay on top until the nuclear industry is shut down. Then, there is still the nuclear waste to be secured. We live on borrowed time. Let’s shut the nuclear industry down now!

The Germanwings Airbus accident investigation should have been done by an international entity with no vested interests in Airbus. It is partially owned by the French State and a major employer. What would happen, for instance, if the fault were a major computer or electronics problem, rather than the pilot?https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/airworthiness-directives-and-the-crash-of-an-old-airplane-in-the-french-alps/
63,000 European jobs at stake:
Airbus SAS … is an aircraft manufacturing division of Airbus Group (formerly European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company). It is based in Blagnac, France, a suburb of Toulouse,[2][3] with production and manufacturing facilities mainly in France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.
Airbus employs around 63,000 people at sixteen sites in four countries: France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom. Final assembly production is based at Toulouse, France; Hamburg, Germany; Seville, Spain; and, since 2009 as a joint-venture, Tianjin, China.[5] Airbus has subsidiaries in the United States, Japan, China and India.

The company produces and markets the first commercially viable fly-by-wire airliner, the Airbus A320,[6][7] and the world’s largest passenger airliner, the A380.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus The one which went down is an ancient A320, known to have many potential problems which need addressing (as elaborated in our post about the Airworthiness Directives). Plus, the French prosecutor is in Marseille, well-known for its history of corruption (the city that is). Can it have been a pilot who went berzerk? You betcha.

But, if the airplane was issuing confusing orders, as it has been known to do in a crisis, then this could jeopardize many industrial jobs. It appears to be, at least in part, those industrial jobs which makes France and the UK cling on to the dangerous idea of nuclear power. Trade unions are traditionally tied to the President’s socialist party.

Who owns it?
État français (French State): 11.00 %
État allemand (German State): 10.90 %
BlackRock: 4.20 %
État espagnol (Spanish State): 4.10 %
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airbus_Group
Clearly the French State should not be doing the investigation!

From CBS: “Audio recovered from Germanwings Flight 9525 black box, cause still a mystery
Last Updated Mar 25, 2015 7:14 PM EDT
SEYNE-LES-ALPES, France — French President Francois Hollande said Wednesday that the case of the second black box of a German plane that smashed into a rugged Alpine mountain, killing all 150 people on board, has been found, but not its contents.

A blog which asks important questions:
Germanwings Air Disaster: What We DON’T Know“.
Posted on March 31, 2015 by austrogirl http://themonicaperezshow.com/2015/03/31/germanwings-air-disaster-what-we-dont-know/

The French President literally stated that the “envelope”, i.e. the cover (case), of the second black box had been found, but not the inside. Apparently (based on images from wikipedia and BEA) this second box was something like an older computer and the equivalent to the hard drive was just found.

While they claim that the Co-pilot sped up to plow into the mountain, what if he sped up to avoid the mountain based on misunderstanding of the computer/ computer or electronic failure. This could probably also account for the stuck door.

The big news today is that 85% French State owned EDF is backing off from work on a new 2 nuclear reactor site (Hinkley Point C) in Somerset, England. This is due to the legal pressure of Austria, because the UK subsidies for nuclear violate EU rules; the skepticism of China regarding funding it, and UK elections. One should not underestimate the lively opposition to the project on the ground, either.

We have been saving Reuters news but decided to do a second post instead. So, Reuters news will post later.

There is still the rest of Sunday and Monday to comment on concrete testing at US nuclear power stations, and to ask them to do ultrasonic testing of the reactor pressure vessels while they are at it! It doesn’t have to be long. A couple of sentences in your own words is fine! It can be anonymous. The comment period deadline is on March 30th regarding whether or not the US NRC should use “improved identification techniques” to better detect concrete degradation at Nuclear Power Stations. “The petitioner requests that the NRC amend its regulations to improve identification techniques against ASR concrete degradation at U.S. nuclear power plants. The petitioner suggests that the reliance on a visual inspection does not ‘adequately identify Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR), does not confirm ASR, or provide the current state of ASR damage (if present) without petrographic analysis under current existing code.http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=NRC-2014-0257 Visual inspections also are inadequate to detect damage to the nuclear reactor pressure vessels, so it is important to request ultrasonic testing for the pressure vessels, while you are commenting: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/03/nuclear-reactor-cracks-widespread-disease-scourge-warns-nobel-in-chemistry-nominee/

The head of the CSB one of the only parts of the US government that was doing its job – perhaps the only part- was forced to resign. Remember this https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/17/csb-jurisdiction-to-investigate-bp-oil-spill-accident-upheld-transocean-appeal-turned-down/

Moure-Eraso’s qualifications are clearly impecable: “Rafael Moure-Eraso (born May 2, 1946) was the Chairman and Chief Executive of the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) between 2010—2015.

For over 30 years, Moure-Eraso has been involved in workplace safety issues.[1] Prior to joining the CSB Moure-Eraso served as a member of the National Advisory Committee on Occupational Health (NACOSH) for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and as a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).[2] He has also served as an industrial hygienist engineer with the national offices of the United Automobile Workers and Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers International Union.[3]

He received his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1967 and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University in 1970. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati in Environmental Health-Industrial Hygiene in 1974 and 1982.[4]

In March of 2015, he was called to testify in front of the House Oversight Committee regarding the management of the Chemical Safety Board. Following that testimony fourteen members of the Committee issued a letter to the White House calling on the President to use his statutory authority to remove Moure-Eraso from his position as Chairman of the CSB…[5]

Moure-Eraso told the Los Angeles Times: “A lot of it is political. The mission of the organization is to produce good reports that make a difference for safety. We are doing that. I can show that we are producing the best reports ever produced in the agency. I stand by that. All of this other talk is peripheral… There have been a lot of accusations, but none of those have ever ended in any findings. The Office of Special Counsel has made no recommendations. Anybody can claim actions against whistleblowers, but there’s no evidence of this. To just say it is not enough. What I would like to be judged for is the quality of the product and the fulfillment of our mission. There will always be people complaining. But they are all rumors.”[6] He resigned his post on March 26, 2015.[7] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rafael_Moure-Eraso

The comment period deadline is on March 30th regarding whether or not the US NRC should use improved identification techniques to better detect concrete degradation at Nuclear Power Stations. http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=NRC-2014-0257 The request for better standards comes from an organization which is worried about the safety status at Seabrook nuclear plower station just 40 miles up the coast from Boston. Your comment can support better testing for safety in nuclear power stations all over America.
US NRC inspecting concrete cracks at Seabrook NPS
NRC Chairman Allison Macfarlane uses a flashlight to closely examine cracks in a concrete wall at the Seabrook nuclear plant in New Hampshire. The cracks are caused by a chemical reaction in the components of the concrete. The NRC is monitoring how the plant owner is dealing with the issue.” (USNRC-Flickr) Because it’s a strong oxidizer, the chloride in sea salt speeds up alkali silica reaction, as well as other types of degradation-corrosion.

Even if you believe that the recent airplane crash in the French Alps was a suicide mission, as now implied, this post is still worth your time due to the shocking state of these airplanes revealed in the EU Airworthiness Directives and the length of time given to correct potentially fatal problems, such as potential engine loss. The US has raised concerns about these airplanes, as well. https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/25/airworthiness-directives-and-the-crash-of-an-old-airplane-in-the-french-alps/
[Not as bad as the US NRC, but bad!]

Mad as Hatters

This simple-minded idea of costs is totally out of control. First the US NRC decides that the nuclear reactor emergency vents for Fukushima type reactors should not have to be radiation filtered and now look at the US Supreme Court position on mercury, below! They are mad as hatters! There are many things wrong with this. Even economically it is wrong because it fails to take into consideration medical costs, disability costs, wage losses, etc. But, it is also more morally revolting than the UK’s refusal to help a poor widow whose husband was killed in a coal mining accident in a government owned coal mine. That is the basis of the ALARA and ALARP which sound so grand but which, in practice, are mean-spirited and evil. The UK considered it not reasonable that they should upkeep the part of the mine where the man was killed. Thus, they refused to give her any money, leaving her a penniless widow. This is the Common Law Precedent for these horrors, it seems. They are also not economically sound because the economic model is too narrow, as just outlined above.

This sounds familiar. Use of “Trade Secrets” to cover dangers: “Use of mercury in hatmaking is thought to have been adopted by the Huguenots in 17th-century France,[2][5] at a time when the dangers of mercury exposure were already known. This process was initially kept a trade secret in France, where hatmaking rapidly became a hazardous occupation. At the end of the 17th century the Huguenots carried the secret to England, following the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. During the Victorian era the hatters’ malaise became proverbial, as reflected in popular expressions like “mad as a hatter” (see below) and “the hatters’ shakes”.[2][5][6]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mad_hatter_disease

UK Members of Parliament must be contacted today, to complain regarding imposition of nuclear waste dump against local will. See reblog: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/24/whose-idea-was-it-to-scrap-democracy-in-order-to-dump-nuclear-wastes/

There is a (US) comment period coming up on March 30th re concrete degradation in nuclear reactors: “NRC-2014-0257 Improved Identification Techniques Against Alkali-Silica Reaction Concrete Degradation at Nuclear Plants (PRM-50-109) 03/30/2015 and on dry cask storage and transport of high burn-up nuclear spent fuel on the 20th of April: “NRC-2015-0047 Considerations in Licensing High Burnup Spent Fuel in Dry Storage and Transportation.” All or almost all spent nuclear fuel is now high burn-up. There is also an EPA comment deadline about ISL uranium mining soon. Since a major US nuclear disaster will impact the world, everyone should feel free to comment. Depending on the location, the US, Canada, and even Mexico could be badly hit. Looking at the currents here, you can see how big an impact a US nuclear disaster could have on the world.
World currents US mil

On the same topic of “Whose idea was it to scrap democracy in order to dump nuclear wastes”, in March 1984, Hilda Murrell wrote in response to a UK “White Paper”:
Para. 57. In this connection, the suggestion that handing the responsibility for waste-management policies to the Department of the Environment would make it “independent of the responsibilities for promoting nuclear power” sounds very hollow. It was this independence above all that the Royal Commission sought. The Nuclear Industry Radioactive Waste Executive (NIREX) recently set up, consisting entirely of “component parts of the industry” and based at Harwell, neither meets this desideratum nor inspires confidence.

On top of this, Mr. Hockway says in his evidence (DOE/P/2.Para. 7.16): “Potential land-disposal facilities for intermediate-level westes will be dealt with by NIREX in their evidence in support of CEGB”. WHY should NIREX support CEGB? Their job is to get rid of the wastes, not to promote the creation of more. This is just a first sample of the results of handing back the executive part of waste management to the sole control of the industry itself; it strengthens the suspicion of the public, that the first concern of the nuclear industry is its own perpetuation.

It also has an inbuilt tendency to dictatorship, of which there was an unpleasant instance this summer, Sir Peter Hirsch, the new director of UKAEA, said on Channel 4 early in June that local authorities must eventually agree to underground sites being used for the disposal of intermediate radioactive nuclear waste. He suspected that “there are ways of doing this by offering them something”. At this the Ordinary Citizen’s blood really does boil. Note the “must”, and the pressure to be applied. By what right does Sir Peter Hirsch dictate to local councils elected by their own people? We have heard about freedom and democracy ad nauseam during the last twelve months, we don’t need to be told, they are the British birthright; but it seems we shall have to start defending them in our backyard.https://wikispooks.com/wiki/File:An_Ordinary_View.pdf

Hilda Murrell was abducted on the 21st of March 1984. Her dead body was found 31 years ago today: on the 24th of March 1984.

If people didn’t know before, they know now how well it is handled. The same nuclear players work all over the world. This is America’s most sophisticated nuclear dump, WIPP:
WIPP 22 May 2014
NUCLEAR ENERGY MUST BE SHUT DOWN! MORE AND MORE COMMUNITIES WILL HAVE A NUCLEAR WASTE DUMP IMPOSED AND MORE AND MORE WILL LONG-LIVED NUCLEAR WASTE, LIKE PLUTONIUM, BE DUMPED INTO PUBLIC LANDFILLS, AS ALLOWED IN THE UK AND THE USA. THEY DUMP IT MIXED AS SO MUCH RADIATION PER POUND OF WASTE. IF IT IS ONLY A LITTLE BIT OF RADIATION IT IS CLASSIFIED NON-RADIOACTIVE. ALSO DANGEROUS ALPHA EMITTERS, LIKE PLUTONIUM, COULD PASS THROUGH THEIR RADIATION DETECTORS UNNOTICED. The US apparently lets dump trucks pass a radiation monitor and if it reads less than a certain amount it passes through as non-radioactive. These monitors would not pick up alpha emitters, which are the most dangerous internally. This is a big danger with the dismantlement of nuclear power plants. Very unbelievable. Look in this blog, at Radiation Free Lakeland or elsewhere, if you doubt this frightening truth, as we did. Most is in the government documents. Some details regarding nuclear waste, etc., are often found on the IAEA web site. This is a start: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/the-dangerous-us-nrc-typo-making-low-level-radioactive-waste-more-radioactive-than-allowed-at-wipp/ Frightening, as well, is the attempt to turn consumers into radioactive waste dumps, by allowing high amounts of radiation in food, with the US the worst offender of all, at around 1,500 Bq/kg for food. Japan at 100 Bq/kg has the best standards, so it is easy to guess where Japan’s radioactive food will go! Australia, New Zealand, and Canada could be at risk with their Pacific Rim locations and 1,000 Bq/kg radiation allowed in food. The US is also getting nuclear waste from all over the world dumped on it, probably because of its weaker standards. Scotland also appears at risk, if it is not vigilant. Japan was already trying to dump its nuclear waste in Scotland in the 1980s, and may have done so. Some in Fukushima prefecture have complained they don’t want their nuclear waste! Watch out folks! Even highly contaminated areas in Idaho and Fukushima have this crazy idea that someone else wants their radioactive waste! No one wants their own rad waste. They certainly don’t want someone else’s.
Politicians who are dumb, bribed, or blackmailed may say they want it, but the people living there do NOT.
