This top image or something similar will probably stay on top until the nuclear industry is shut down. Then there is still the nuclear waste to be secured. We live on borrowed time.

Arnie Gundersen discusses his trip to the UK and presents a Fukushima Timeline: http://www.fairewinds.org/fairewinds-keeps-you-informed-fukushima/

Nuclear waste – no one wants it. Even those who want new nuclear reactors and/or want to keep nuclear labs often don’t want the waste. Fukushima is contaminated and some people don’t even want the radioactive waste to stay in Fukushima! Where do they think it’s supposed to go? Right now it’s still in plastic bags! Piles have grown much bigger than this Greenpeace picture. The Reuters article on Fukushima nuclear waste is worth it simply for the picture.
Fukushima cleanup Greenpeace

As dismantlement of nuclear reactors speeds up, everyone needs to be vigilant, so as not to find nuclear reactor dismantlement waste in their own backyards. Some old nuclear reactor parts from outside of Tennessee ended up in a Tennessee landfill. Beware! Even when the reactors shut down something has to be done with the nuclear waste.

We changed the above title to corroded, damaged, from broken (link stays the same), but it’s not really clear what they are proposing. Holtec-NRC say not “known” to be “grossly breached”, but fuel rods can be amputated with prosthetics. An amputated fuel rod is not a broken one, or is it? For a leg no. For a fuel rod, maybe. Holtec implies that they don’t want to look to see if the fuel rods are breached or not: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/09/holtec-nrc-confusing-double-speak-damaged-spent-nuclear-fuel-comment-period-ends-today-11-59-pm-eastern-us-4-59-tues-utc/

BWR Spent Nuclear fuel involves about 1/3rd of the US Nuclear (light water) reactors, which are Boiling water reactors (BWR). The others are Pressurized water reactors (PWR). (Based on memory. For an exact figure please do your own research.)

Germany Standing Firm Against EU Nuclear Subsidies

Watch out Ed Davey! Deutschland gegen Atomkraft!
Friedrich August von Kaulbach (1850–1920)
Germania by Kaulbach, 1914

German companies, E.ON and RWE are currently responsible for around 11% of uranium enrichment in the world and 1/3rd of that which occurs in the US. URENCO – owned in equal thirds by the UK and Dutch governments and the German E.On.-RWE consortium is responsible for about 1/3rd of the uranium enrichment worldwide.

However, E.ON. and RWE are actually suing the German government over the shutdown of the nuclear reactors, as is Swedish State owned Vattenfall.

Boris Yefimovich Nemtsov ( 9 October 1959 – 27 February 2015): “In 1986, in the wake of the Chernobyl disaster, Nemtsov organized a protest movement in his hometown which effectively prevented the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the region… At the time of the murder, Nemtsov was in Moscow helping to organise a rally against Russian involvement in the war in Ukraine and the financial crisis. Nemtsov’s conflict with Vladimir Putin’s government centered over widespread embezzlement and profiteering ahead of the Sochi Olympics, as well as over Russian political interference and military ivolvement in Ukraine.[6][7] In the weeks before his death, Nemtsov expressed fear that Russian President Vladimir Putin would have him killed.[8][9]

At the time of his death Nemtsov was working on a report demonstrating the involvement of the Russian military with Russian rebels in eastern Ukraine, which the Kremlin denied and opinion polls show would be highly unpopular.[10] He was an elected member of the regional parliament of Yaroslavl Oblast and since 2013, a co-chair of the RPR-PARNAS which is a member of the European Liberal-Democratic Alliance, and one of the leaders of the Solidarnost opposition movement.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boris_Nemtsov http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2015/02/27/389598306/putin-critic-boris-nemtsov-shot-dead

The French Senate amendments to the Energy law do away with reducing nuclear to 50% of French electricity, removing pressure to shut down the aging reactors [minus consideration of the cracked reactor issue found next door in Belgium, etc.] Additionally the ceiling for installed nuclear power was actually raised from 63,2 GW to 64,85 GW, in order to allow the operation of the new EPR at Flamanville without shutting down Fessenheim. http://www.sortirdunucleaire.org/spip.php?page=article_dossier&id_article=34564&id_dossier=638 The French Senate is also trying to destroy the wind industry in France. New Post: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2015/03/01/update-re-thousands-of-defects-cracks-in-belgian-nuclear-reactor-pressure-vessels/ Feb. 25, 2015 clarification by Belgian nuclear authorities. US expert warned that cracking of nuclear reactor pressure vessels may be the Ebola or measles of nuclear reactors. Hydrogen damage-embrittlement has been described since at least 1875. The chemistry and radiation of the reactors speeds up the process. Plus nuclear reactors are exposed to neutron bombardment which can lead to embrittlement. This is very, very dangerous. These reactors are currently shutdown, but others operating may be as badly or more badly damaged. Plus, Belgium has not excluded re-opening these cracked ones!

The Super-Rich Shall Inherit the Earth: The New Global Oligarachs and How They’re Taking Over our World“, By Stephen Armstrong, 2010. Book summary: http://youtu.be/btoaU7z_E4Q Among others, it discusses former BP CEO “Lord” Browne, as well as the Russian oligarchs in the news today. We haven’t read it, but it looks worthwhile. It is available as an ebook.

On the topic of former BP CEO, “Lord” Browne of Madingley, and the Russian Oligarchs, by the New York Times: “L1 Energy, which is based in London, hired several prominent advisers, including John Browne, the former chief executive of BP, and Andrew Gould, the former chief executive of Schlumberger, the oil services giant, and have been scouting for deals.

Mr. Fridman is one of Russia’s wealthiest businessmen and heads the Alfa Group, which has investments in banking and telecommunications. Mr. Khan is his longtime business partner.

The two men, along with other Russian partners, sold a 50 percent stake in a Russian oil company then known as TNK in 2003 to BP.“, excerpted from:”German Firm’s Sale to Russians Draws Fire“By Alison Smale and Stanley Reed, March 17, 2014 http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/18/business/international/german-firms-sale-to-russians-draws-fire.html?_r=0

Since then, the new island has fused with nearby Nishinoshima and continued to grow. When it was last measured by the Japanese coast guard, the island covered 1.89 square kilometers (0.73 square miles). Its highest point was 100 meters (328 feet) above sea level. Volcanologists find no signs that the eruption is abating and expect the island to grow two or three times its current size, according to news reports. Earthquake Outlook

There is currently an earthquake someplace on earth. There will soon be another large earthquake in Japan.

World political outlook

Putin will continue to “act out” at about the same frequency as Japan has earthquakes.

UK “Lords” and other world elites will continue to try to undermine democratic process.

Radioactive Waste is the Albatross around everyone’s neck and the cooling of nuclear reactors and waste poisons the water:
Water, water, every where,
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.
” (Coleridge, Lake District Poet)

This also could prove a dangerous precedent, especially in common law jurisdictions, like the US, Canada, Australia and India, of using eminent domain to impose a nuclear dump in the name of national interest, even when local government opposes, even when it is a National Park, even when the geology is especially unfit, as is the case in Cumbria.

Simply the construction of the proposed dump would damage the surface of the Lake District National Park. Miss Potter trailer: http://youtu.be/RKhAiWmuU8o The movie shows her buying up farms in the Lake District to save them.

The UK has largely replaced hereditary Lords with appointed ones who, more than once, failed to get elected to the House of Commons and then got appointed to House of Lords. One of those would be a rat named “Baroness Verma” who is promoting a nuclear agenda for a country in which she was not even born, who lives in what appears the most nuclear free area of England, and who apparently wants to destroy Beatrix Potter’s Lake District with a WIPP style nuclear dump! Verma “was created a Conservative life peer on 2 June 2006 taking the title Baroness Verma, of Leicester in the County of Leicestershire,[4][5] having been an unsuccessful parliamentary candidate in two general elections (2001 and 2005) – in Hull East in 2001, where she finished third, and in Wolverhampton South West in 2005, where she came second to the Labour incumbent, Rob Marris.[6]” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sandip_Verma,_Baroness_Verma http://www.theguardian.com/politics/person/5951/sandip-verma
