The impact of deep sea mining will not only be more generally bad for the ocean, but will probably stir up radioactive fallout from nuclear weapons testing, as well as from nuclear accidents (e.g. Fukushima), and routine nuclear pollution from reactors, waste and nuclear subs. Most reactors are on the ocean, or on rivers to send it to the ocean. The same is true for some of the waste (e.g. Sellafield, Savannah River site).

The “Convention on Supplementary Comp for Nuclear Damage” is an economic, environmental, and health suicide pact

How will heavily the indebted US or Japan pay for each other’s inevitable nuclear accidents? Under the “Convention on Supplementary Compensation for Nuclear Damage” the US will pay 1/3rd of the cost of a nuclear accident in earthquake prone, volcanic Japan and now India, if India signs on. This includes at least one known to be defective Russian nuclear reactor in India. It’s not clear how much Japan or India will pay in, nor how.

The so-called insurance which the US nuclear utilities (Price Anderson) and US nuclear service providers pay (Convention on Supplementary Comp for Nuclear Damage) is only paid AFTER an accident. Then, you can be certain, that the utilities will declare bankruptcy, and especially the foreign service providers will cut and run to a country which isn’t part of this economic, environmental, and health suicide pact. By holding all US service providers and utilities liable, it benefits those who sell defective products, and encourages it. Hence it increases the chance of nuclear disaster. Liability should be according to guilt.

Already the US nuclear service providers are whining that they want the US taxpayer to pay and officially no liability at all. Furthermore, an accident in Japan or India would mean that there would be no Price Anderson pool for a US accident. Morocco, Argentina, UAE, and Romania are also involved in this pact, but will presumably pay in much less since it is based on less installed nuclear capacity. Although it is supposed to be based on installed nuclear capacity, the US is capping at 1/3rd, meaning other countries carry a greater burden. Russia and France are not members of this pact and yet can still sell defective equipment to the countries, as can other out of pact members. If Russian or French equipment causes the accident they pay nothing, and the US, Japan, India, Romania, Argentina, Morocco and UAE pay, according to nuclear capacity, meaning that the US and Japan are to pay the most. The UAE is getting new South Korean reactors and service providers, for which the US, Japan and others are liable and S. Korea is not, because they didn’t join this suicide pact.

We finally figured out why Japan is now pushing nuclear the hardest of all – because they got by with it! They see that the world doesn’t care if they poison and eventually kill the Pacific. They may just shove the Fukushima reactors on off into the ocean and they are getting by with it. Few utter a word about it. It also sets an example that everyone else can get by with it, until it is too late, and the earth is dead. Those promoting nuclear are the real terrorists. Everything is fade in comparison. This includes policy-makers within the US, UK, and Japanese governments. The nuclear industry is part of the government in Russian and France. So, terrorist policy-makers in the US and Japan; terrorist states in Russia and France.

Newly dubbed video made by Cuba on the Chernobyl accident, ca 2006: “Cuba and Chernobylhttp://youtu.be/H10xE1CcKxQ The first minutes which we have watched are very important. We haven’t had time to watch all of it, but don’t want to lose the link. It shows that Chernobyl was very serious. It wasn’t fun and games like the nuclear lobby wants you to think. At least 116,000 people were evacuated, according to the video. Cubans who were training to fly airplanes, donated blood and bone marrow. 200,000 people were involved in the clean-up. It was and is still serious. They speak of the about to collapse sarcophagus. Do you want to volunteer to clean up the next accident? Or do you think that it’s fine to use the homeless, those in debt, and possibly slave labor from elsewhere, as Japan is doing for Fukushima?

The US and Japan are among the most seriously indebted countries in the world, as percentage of GDP. How does anyone imagine that they will handle the repercussions of an accident in their own countries or in India, the UAE, Morocco or Argentina? Their governments are stark raving mad!

And, Morocco is building a Russian Nuclear Power Station! Yes, and Russia can and probably will sell defective parts and who pays? Not Russia but the US, Japan, Romania, maybe India, Argentina and the UAE. Ditto for if an Islamist terrorist attacks it! New way to bankrupt the US and Japan. Is this what they call innovation in finance?

As of September 2014, foreigners owned $6.06 trillion of U.S. debt, or approximately 47% of the debt held by the public of $12.8 trillion and 34% of the total debt of $17.8 trillion.[40] The largest holders were China, Japan, Belgium, the Caribbean banking centers, and oil exporters.[42] The share held by foreign governments has grown over time, rising from 13% of the public debt in 1988[43] to 25% in 2007.[44]

As of September 2014 the largest single holder of U.S. government debt was China, with 21% of all foreign-held U.S. Treasury securities (10% of total U.S. public debt).[45] China’s holdings of government debt, as a percentage of all foreign-held government debt are up significantly since 2000 (when China held just 6 percent of all foreign-held U.S. Treasury securities).[46]

Where did all of the BP Oil Go? Did it Dissolve like BP wants? No! It went where some nuclear waste dumped into the Mississippi is going – into sediments to be stirred up with the next hurricane and dumped out on land. The oil probably eventually breaks down. Many of the radionuclides will not before 100s, 1,000s or even millions of years. There is nuclear waste in sediments all over the earth, to various degrees.

NEW ORLEANS –Nearly five year after BP’s 4.9 million barrel oil spill the Gulf of Mexico, which it inundated with 2 million gallons of the cancer-causing chemical Corexit during clean up efforts, the US Environmental Protection Agency has proposed amendments to standards governing dispersant use in oil spills, the agency said earlier this week.

Apparently when enough money goes missing, the Russian parliament (Duma) starts asking questions. So, maybe the parliament does have about as much say, as in France and the US – not much but some – even if Rosatom only answers to Putin. There needs to be firm control and a stop to the nuclear pork barrel, in all countries. The really bad news is that there is STILL a Chernobyl-like nuclear reactor which endangers most of Europe.

Russian Audit Chamber cites ballooning budgets in domestic nuke projects A report by the Russian Duma’s independent Audit Chamber seen by Bellona revealed that delayed payments for construction costs at a host of new nuclear power plant builds are leading to ballooning budgets, delayed start up dates and sloppy, hazardous construction conditions.
Excerpt: “Because these two units will come online late, continued operation of the original Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant’s Chernobyl-style reactors could be prolonged, the Audit Chamber said.http://bellona.org/news/nuclear-issues/nuclear-russia/2015-01-russian-audit-chamber-cites-ballooning-budgets-domestic-nuke-projects
