In 2014 Gabon said that Total owed them $805 million in unpaid taxes for the period of 2008-2010
Total ownership includes nuclear Areva and “nuclear banker” BNP Paribas. Though these percentages are small, the overall sales of Total are so huge they most certainly get a lot of money.
Areva (0,3 %)
BNP Paribas (0,2 %) http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_(entreprise) http://www.greenpeace.org/international/en/campaigns/nuclear/stop-radioactive-investment/E-mail-BNP-Paribas-and-ask-them-to-stop-nuclear-investments/ BNP-Paribas is also classified as a “nuclear banker” because of investments in companies involved in weapons-making.

Gabon has been long used and abused by France, in particular with uranium and manganese mining. Gabon has had Ebola outbreaks. The most interesting research about Ebola is about Gabon.

Total said in September that sanctions would not stop it working on the Yamal project, a $27bn joint venture investment to tap vast natural gas reserves in north-west Siberia that aims to double Russia’s stake in the fast-growing market for liquefied natural gas… De Margerie, 63, was on a list of attendees at a Russian government meeting on foreign investment in Gorki, near Moscow, on Monday.” From “Total oil CEO Christophe de Margerie killed in Moscow plane crash: Head of oil giant and three crew died when private jet hit snowplough during takeoff, say Russian sources“, Reuters in Moscow, theguardian.com, Tuesday 21 October 2014 02.37 BST http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/oct/21/total-oil-ceo-christophe-de-margeriekilled-in-moscow-plane-crash-say-reports

What the CEO of Total appears to have just got:
just deserts (plural only)
(idiomatic) A punishment or reward that is considered to be what the recipient deserved.
It may appear that they’re getting ahead by cheating, but they’ll get their just deserts in the end….
Deserts here is the plural of desert, meaning “that which one deserves”. “Desert” is now archaic and rarely used outside this phrase….
Synonyms
payback, poetic justice, comeuppance

More poetic is that the airplane was a Dassault jet. Dassault has made nuclear bombers, since the beginning. They also do 3-D models for nuclear power plants. Dassault-Serge Dassault appear to be the blockage to France exiting nuclear.

If Dassault would do more innovation – rather than pin their wings to nuclear – and have had night vision and automatic brakes on its airplane like some German and other cars, then maybe it would have averted hitting the snow plow?

French media spin has portrayed EDF’s nuclear exit from the US as part of Proglio’s successful EDF trackrecord. Here is the real scoop!

Section 103(d) of the Atomic Energy Act (42 U.S.C. § 2133) states in plain language: “No license may be issued to an alien or any corporation or other entity if the Commission knows or has reason to believe it is owned, controlled, or dominated by an alien, a foreign corporation, or a foreign government.”

Those words are the law of the land, and for decades they stood unchallenged and uncontroversial.

And then along came Electricite de France (EDF), a utility mostly owned by the French government, with major expansionist dreams.
(Emphasis our own) The rest of the reblog is here: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/10/20/will-nrc-allow-more-foreign-ownership-of-u-s-reactors/

EDF owns all but one UK nuclear power plant. It would be interesting to know if there is such a law in the UK which is being overlooked.

PROXIMITY OF PROPOSED EDF PLANT TO WASHINGTON DC
Calvert Cliffs NPP and DC
Of related interest:
In October 2010, Constellation Energy said that it had reached an impasse in negotiations for a federal loan guarantee to build the proposed third nuclear reactor at Calvert Cliffs. The government was seeking a fee of $880 million on a guarantee of about $7.6 billion, to compensate taxpayers for the risk of default. However, Constellation Energy has said that fee would doom the project, “or the economics of any nuclear project, for that matter”.

November 2010, a deal to transfer Constellation Energy Group’s stake in a nuclear development company to its French partner, EDF Group, closed, according to the SEC. A month prior, Constellation agreed to sell its 50 percent stake in UniStar Nuclear Energy to EDF for $140 million, giving EDF sole ownership of the joint venture and its plans to develop a third unit at Calvert Cliffs in Southern Maryland. The deal called for EDF to transfer 3.5 million shares it owns, valued around $110 million, to Constellation and give up its seat on the Constellation board. EDF designee Samuel Minzberg resigned.

In April 2011, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) stated that UniStar is not eligible to build a third reactor, as it is not a US owned company since Constellation pulled out of the partnership in 2010. The NRC would continue to process the application, but a license would not be issued until the ownership requirements were met. The reactor is now estimated to cost $9.6 billion.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calvert_Cliffs_Nuclear_Power_Plant

New Post: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/10/16/500-years-of-dangerous-nuclear-waste-fusion-reactors-are-not-the-holy-grail-solar-is-the-holy-grail/ Lockheed Martin is trying to promote the concept of fusion now. Is it to make plutonium for the military industrial complex? Fusion makes nuclear waste. It is considered a proliferation risk, as well.

This topic upstaged the topic which we were researching the last couple of days (which in turn upstaged our Ebola research). We had wanted to report on the impacts of removing Henri Proglio from EDF upon nuclear France. However, now they’ve narrowed his replacement to CEO of Thales, which is – like Lockheed Martin – a part of the military industrial complex. But, the real kingmaker appears to be Serge Dassault. We will probably lay out why we say that on another day. But, in case we don’t, the info is there, though reading French helps.

Hurrah Sego!
The French National Assembly voted a law, yesterday, on the energy transition. It represents a major cultural evolution – placing in question the supremacy of nuclear, by planning the reduction of the electric mix from 75% to 50% nuclear by 2025. http://presse.greenpeace.fr/energie-climat/loi-de-transition-energetique-et-nucleaire-le-travail-nest-pas-fini-3499-14102014 Meanwhile Greenpeace protested at the Nuclear Energy Expo in Paris.

Proglio is probably on the cutting block for EDF. French news and earlier Reuters reports have a list of possible candidates. Sounds like Thursday will be more a short-listing with the final vote in November.

French proposing to recycle the same dangerous nuclear crap (sodium reactors) or devising new schemes, on the back of the taxpayer. Nuclear explosion or fire is a very big problem! Reuters clearly explains this, below, but have given the article an inane title, about an “element of doubt”. Then in the article they point out, “But sodium has significant disadvantages, too. On contact with air, it burns; plunged into water, it explodes.” Yeah, if you have an element of a brain there is NOT an element of doubt that this is a problem!

According to Reuters (see below): “healthcare workers in Liberia complain they are still working without basic protective clothing and are not receiving adequate compensation while many of them have contracted and died from the disease.” That makes lots of sense. No one will give proper clothing to Liberian health workers so they can work! Instead they ask for foreign medical personnel from countries which aren’t all doing a very fab job themselves with handling Ebola (i.e. US and Spain and maybe others).

New Post: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/10/10/scottish-radioactive-waste-ship-fire-the-high-fashion-service-sector-baroness-verma/

We have evidence (document) that suggests air transmission of Ebola. The current outbreak variant of Ebola (Zaire) was transmitted from pigs to monkeys without direct contact and it is believed that it was transmitted in the air. We will post the article when we can. Because of the new post above, we didn’t have time. The wise will enlarge their personal space enough that no one can accidentally spit on them when talking (and vice versa). Sneezing is another problem. Don’t sneeze on people and try not to be sneezed on. Ebola or no Ebola, it will help prevent the flu. Eat well, sleep well, drink plenty of water, take your vitamins, wash your hands. When you wash your hands you must find a way to cut on or off the tap or faucet without touching it. If not you put the germs right back on your hands. So, someone would need to turn the tap-faucet on for you, or you must cut it off with a paper towel (info from a hospital infection control officer). Alternatively, you may want to use a paper to turn on the tap-faucet while your hands are dirty. Depending on the style of tap-faucet you may be able to turn it off and on with a small plastic cup. Some nurses use their elbows. Ideally you would have an automated tap-faucet or foot pedals to open the tap-faucet. Obviously this isn’t “medical advice”. It is common sense advice. Ebola is believed to live on surfaces for about 6 days. Obviously if you are dealing with a probable or known Ebola case you must obtain and follow more strict and detailed advice from experts.

More optimistically, we also have a document that suggests that some people are immune to Ebola. The downside of this is the potential for silent carriers. Additionally, no one has discussed how many Ebola sufferers were more susceptible due to being immune compromised (e.g. AIDs). Poor nutrition also weakens the immune system. If many Ebola sufferers appear to die within 24 hours, a case was reported of someone who was sick for a week, walked to hospital and still lived.

In the past toxic and perhaps radioactive waste have been dumped in West Africa. This could also play a role, especially in weakening or damaging the immune system.

Deforestation and the related surface mining must stop in Africa. Exploitation of Africa must stop! Africa is not French, it’s not Chinese, it’s not American (etc.). Africa is for Africans.

UK nuclear subsidies for new nuclear reactors constitute unfair subsidies; anti-competitive unfair business practices which probably have international repercussions under various trade deals. EDF is already 85% French govt. owned (taxpayer subsidized)! Now the UK taxpayer is to subsidize EDF! Write EU Commissioners before 8 am BST, 9 am CEST, and 3 am EDT and 4 pm JST to complain. One or two sentences is enough. Joaquín ALMUNIA Vice President EU Commissioner for Competition European Competition http://ec.europa.eu/commission_2010-2014/almunia/contact/commissioner/form_en.htm

Typhoons Oct. 8th

Areva is another example of an unfairly subsidized nuclear behemoth. EDF’s twin, Areva, is also almost totally French gov owned, making it unfair business practices, by definition. They both can simply lean back upon the French taxpayer. Furthermore, the French govt. has shown themselves willing and able to invade Africa to defend Areva’s uranium mines. The new Hinkley reactors are supposed to be by Areva, but owned and operated by EDF.

While the nuclear industry enjoys unfair guarantees, there were no guarantees for the Spanish healthcare sector. It has been suggested that budget cuts to Spanish healthcare have made them ill prepared for the Ebola cases. Meanwhile, the unfair subsidies to the nuclear sector will lead to an overwhelming of healthcare in the likely event of a major nuclear accident.

EDF and Areva make clear the meaning of the term socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor.
