While US States such as Washington State (http://www.atg.wa.gov/divisions/ecology/hanford.aspx) and now South Carolina, are forced to threaten, fine, or even sue the US Government-DOE in attempts to get it to take responsibility for Nuclear Waste at US National facilities, Obama and Moniz are trying to import more nuclear waste, currently from Germany, to the Savannah River South Carolina site. There is still no place to put US commercial waste, which with the Yucca mountain facility cancelled, is stored in a precariously overcrowded way, on the premises of nuclear facilities around the USA. Recently German radioactive waste was sent to Tennessee to be burned: “The Germans are a worldwide leader in toxic waste incineration, yet they seek to send their radioactive waste here to burn. If it is safe, why don’t they burn it themselves?’ asks Don Safer of the Tennessee Environmental Council. The EnergySolutions incinerators have been operating since around 1990 and have never undergone a comprehensive environmental impact analysis.” (See: http://www.nonukesyall.org/stop_German_waste_import.html)

And, on 06/17/2014, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham (Republican South Carolina) announced the Senate Appropriations Energy & Water bill contains over $400 million for completion of the the MOX Fuel Fabrication Facility at Savannah River Site http://www.lgraham.senate.gov/public The Senate Energy appropriations committee is chaired by US Senator Mary Landrieu, who received major campaign donations from Shaw, which is partner with Areva for the MOX facilty. The NIRS explains that “MOX fuel requires processing of plutonium before the fuel is fabricated, creating new plutonium-laced waste, added worker exposures, and releases to the environment.http://www.nirs.org/factsheets/basicmoxinfo.htm It’s only been a few months since the Federal Government-DOE (Moniz) gave a no-interest $ 6.5 Billion loan, for new reactors at Plant Vogtle, also involving Shaw. (See: http://www.nonukesyall.org/Vogtle.html)

Shouldn’t they be required to clean-up the old nuclear mess before making new nuclear mess? Someone has recently come up with boarding school from a young age as an excuse for what makes UK leaders so childish, but US leaders generally have no such excuse!

Although lack of Federal Funding is cited as the problem in the letter below, one cannot help but notice that some of the same players involved at Savannah River Remediation (SRR), discussed below, are also at facilities with major screw-ups: WIPP, Three Mile Island, and Fukushima’s failed water filtration. These are URS, lead at WIPP and for the SRR Consortium; Areva and Energy Solutions at SRR and involved in Fukushima water filtration screw-ups and present at WIPP. Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, of Three Mile Island infamy and present at SRR, and the now infamous WIPP. URS and Energy Solutions are also involved at Hanford. None of this inspires confidence!

thirty-seven million gallons
1 US gallon is 3.785 liters
140 million liters of “highly radioactive and toxic waste, stored in aging and degrading tanks”! Why don’t Obama, Moniz, Graham and Landrieu invite the German leaders over for a pool party in the 37 gallons (140 million liters) and play water volley ball with those balls of high level German nuclear waste from the German Pebble Bed Reactor!?

If you think that dumping German Nuclear Waste in the USA is wrong, especially when it can’t or won’t cope with its own nuclear waste, before 21 July 2014, please contact: Mr. Andrew Grainger, drew.grainger@srs.gov (see more below)

Now would be a good time for the Azores Islands to take Ernest Moniz back to his place of origin as part of the nuclear “return to sender” programs. Of course then he would probably try to import the world’s nuclear waste there… Or would he poison his own homeland like he apparently wants to do to all of the USA? Obviously he has no ties of affection for the USA. He wants to fuel the US nuclear industry, so obviously he counts as nuclear fuel which might be returned to its place of origin.

“The public scoping period closes on July 21, 2014. DOE will consider all comments received or postmarked by that date. Comments submitted after that date will be considered to the extent practicable. DOE will hold a public meeting to discuss the proposed German HEU fuel project and receive comments on the scope of the EA. http://energy.gov/nepa/ea-1977-acceptance-and-disposition-used-nuclear-fuel-containing-us-origin-highly-enriched
YOU CAN ALSO REQUEST THAT ERNEST MONIZ BE DEPORTED TO THE AZORES ISLANDS, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC, WHERE HE CANNOT CAUSE SO MUCH HARM! THIS COULD BE PART OF THE RETURN THE NUCLEAR FUEL BACK TO ITS PLACE OF ORIGIN.
HE IS CERTAINLY TRYING TO FUEL THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY!

Notes on Facility Contractors

Savannah River Site is owned by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The management and operating contract has been given to Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC (SRNS), and the Liquid Waste Operations contract was given to Savannah River Remediation (SRR), which is a consortium led by URS Corp. URS is lead at the WIPP facility and also claims lead at Sellafield.

The SRR consortium, led by URS Corp, with partners Bechtel National, CH2M Hill, and Babcock & Wilcox (of Three Mile Island infamy). Subcontractors include AREVA, Energy Solutions and URS Professional Solutions. AREVA and Energy Solutions are both present at WIPP AND involved in the Fukushima water filtration fuck up.

WIPP is run by Nuclear Waste Partnership LLC (NWP), which is a URS-led (URS Energy and Construction, Inc.) consortium including URS partner Babcock & Wilcox Technical Services Group, Inc. (B&W) Technical Services Group, and major subcontractor, approx. 90% French govt owned, AREVA Federal Services.

SRNS is responsible for the Site’s nuclear facility operations, with the exception of the liquid waste facilities; SRNL; environment, safety, health and quality assurance; and all administrative functions. The SRNS team includes Fluor Daniel, Northrop Grumman and Honeywell. Savannah River Remediation, LLC, is responsible for liquid waste operations under a contract that is in place for six years beginning July 1, 2009. The SRR team includes URS, Babcock & Wilcox, Bechtel and CH2MHill. The rest are SRNS subcontractors, the U.S. Forest Service-Savannah River, and other DOE contractors; the security contractor, WSI-Wackenhut Services Inc.; Shaw AREVA MOX Services; Parsons; and the Savannah River Ecology Laboratory, operated by the University of Georgiahttp://www.srs. gov/general/news/factsheets/srs.pdf

I am trying hard to resist the temptation of commenting on German expertise in incineration. He that hath ears let him hear.
