Worst Solution for Energy Needs
Nuclear Industry Cycle http://web.evs. anl.gov/uranium/guide/uf6/index.cfm

The best solution for dealing with energy needs, especially in hot, sunny environments and especially for urban environments = rooftop solar:

Regarding recent heat-wave energy solutions: In the long term zero population growth, in India and elsewhere, is needed to allow more trees and less concrete. In the short term, solar panels for each building appears the best solution.

Virunga National Park is unique with its active chain of volcanoes and rich diversity of habitats that surpass those of any other African park. Its range contains an amalgamation of steppes, savannas and plains, marshlands, low altitude and afro-montane forest belts to unique afro-alpine vegetation and permanent glaciers and snow on Monts Rwenzori whose peaks culminate in 5000 m height. How warm was that Nuclear Waste?
StillLifeWithASkull
December 2001 – Three woodcutters in the nation of Georgia found two warm canisters near their camp and spent the night beside them. The canisters were discarded and unshielded heat sources from Soviet radioisotope thermoelectric generators, containing 30 kCi (1.1 PBq) of strontium-90 each. The woodcutters started showing symptoms of radiation sickness within hours, and were subsequently hospitalized with severe radiation burns. The disposal team consisted of 25 men who were restricted to 40 seconds’ worth of exposure each while transferring the canisters to lead-lined drums“. (references at link) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_civilian_radiation_accidents#2000s It does not tell us if they lived.

New post: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/06/06/indigenous-elders-call-for-action-at-fukushima-powerful-technologies-are-out-of-control-and-are-threatening-the-future-of-all-life/

"A white buffalo at the Lee G. Simmons Conservation Park and Safari in Ashland, Nebraska. This animal is not a true white buffalo, being 1/16 Charolais cattle. The first signatory of the call to action is Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Spiritual Leader of the Great Sioux Nation, born in South Dakota, USA, the 19th Generation Keeper of the Sacred White Buffalo Calf Pipe for the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota Sioux (American Indians). It is believed that the appearance of a white buffalo calf, “Miracle”, in 1994, followed since by many more, was a sign of urgency regarding the earth. White buffalo woman first appeared in the Black Hills of South Dakota, the area of which has been mined in the past for uranium and never cleaned up. It is in further danger of new uranium mining by a foreign company, Powertech.

This myth of the appearance of white animals as a warning is interesting considering that in “High frequency of albinism and tumours in free-living birds around Chernobyl“, professors A.P. Møller, A. Bonisoli-Alquati, and T.A. Mousseau conclude that “albinism and tumour formation are frequent in many bird species in the surroundings of Chernobyl; that the frequency increases with background radiation level; and that species showing the most severe decrease in abundance are also the species with higher frequency of albinism and tumours. These estimates exceed the frequencies reported for humans and suggest that albinism and tumours may accumulate in frequency over time.” A.P. Møller, et al., “High frequency of albinism and tumours in free-living birds around Chernobyl“, Mutat. Res.: Genet. Toxicol. Environ. Mutagen.(2013) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23850808 Note that this was mostly partial albinism.

Early on, researchers knew that genetic changes from ionizing radiation could be recessive and hence not show in the population for many generations. They were particularly worried that as more and more people were exposed to ionizing radiation, that these recessive mutations would start to become visible. They worried, for instance, about mutations which might impact intelligence, while not impacting fertility. What ever did happen to intelligent researchers who had the good sense to wonder such things?

A white buffalo was recorded at the U.S. Army Arctic Testing Center, Fort Greely, Alaska. There is a copyrighted photograph of it in Seeing the White Buffalo by Robert Pickering.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_buffalo

White Buffalo Calf Woman (Lakota: Pte Ska Win/Pteskawin/Ptesanwi) is a sacred woman of supernatural origin, central to the Lakota religion as the primary cultural prophet.” (Emphasis added) After Roman Catholic missionaries came, White Buffalo Calf Woman became synonymous with the Virgin Mary, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Buffalo_Calf_Woman An interesting variant, which we have read, is that White Buffalo Woman was sent by God (Great Spirit) to the peoples of the west (Americas), when Jesus was sent to the peoples of the east, making her a sort of twin to Jesus.

In the last few weeks, Azarga Resources Limited, a Hong Kong investment firm, has neared half ownership of Powertech Uranium. With Azarga’s purchase of shares of Powertech stock from the Belgian firm Synatom, Azarga reached 45.1% ownership of Powertech. Powertech’s offices in Canada and New Mexico will be closed, and two Canadian board members will be replaced. In addition to its current ownership, Azarga has loaned Powertech $3.6 million. Under an agreement between the companies, the Chinese firm can convert this loan to shares of stock, if Powertech doesn’t pay them back by July 22, 2014. If this conversion occurs, Powertech will become a Chinese company with Azarga owning 47.6% of the company.http://dakotarural.org/powertech-nears-chinese-ownership/

Little known fact, discussed below, is that almost all underground facilities require pumping of (under) groundwater to keep them dry. This is a major, almost undiscussed, problem of nuclear waste disposal, as the rust-corrosion-nuclear waste can set up the situation for an explosion in a nuclear facility. Pumping of water can destabilize and cause sinkholes, as well. Acid mine drainage is a problem too for old mines.

The Hypocrisy of former British PM Gordon Brown and brother Andrew Brown: Poster Children of the Need for Clerical Celibacy

Gordon Brown and Andrew Brown appear proof of the never-discussed problem of celibacy of protestant clergy. Not only is a clergyman’s time divided between family and church duties, but the children of preachers must quickly become hypocrites or saints. It appears obvious to us that these two Brown brothers have become hypocrites and not saints.

As the children of a clergyman, they will have learned from birth that humans are supposed to be caretakers of the animals and of earth, stewards of the animals and of the earth, and not destroyers of the earth, as the nuclear industry is.

And, yet, Andrew Brown has been head of media relations for 85% French government owned EDF energy (EDF stands for Electricity of France), since 2004, a major nuclear player. It is Areva’s evil twin. As a new Prime Minister, in 2007, Gordon Brown called “for an acceleration of nuclear power. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/oct/21/nuclear-power-in-the-uk-a-history

EDF recently got approval for the first new nuclear reactor in the UK since 1995, under an environmental minister, Ed Davey, whose brother has or is still working as a lawyer for EDF. (Do you reckon that the reputation of Henri Proglio, CEO of EDF, for hiring the family members of politicians, has any basis in reality???)

And, since Gordon and Andrew seem clearly to have the interests of the French government-nuclear industry at heart and not the interests of the UK OR Scotland, Gordon is poorly placed to speak of Scottish sovereignty, as he has (see Reuters below).

At this historical juncture, Scotland needs to leave the UK above all to free itself from the nuclear industry. If not, it will be facing off attempts by London to impose new nuclear power plants and a nuclear waste dump on the Highlands and/or Islands, just as Cumbria has been having to fight the imposition of a waste dump by London (and a new nuclear reactor). Moreover, there is a likelihood that France and Germany will send their nuclear waste to a dump in Scotland (or Cumbria), if there is one. EDF is majority French government owned, and seems to have close ties to the UK government, and Germany’s track record is to export its waste anyplace it can – e.g. Italy; Russia; Tennessee and South Carolina, USA.

Given that the majority of indigenous Scots were probably deported long ago by London: Border Clans, Highlanders, Islanders, those participating in the 1820 rising, etc., it does not appear as much a question of nationalism-ethnicity (unless they choose to let the deportees return, which is doubtful), but rather of democratic process and of freedom to choose a nuclear free future. To get shut of nuclear! Another option is that most of the UK secede from London and let London be an official City State. Maybe the USA can follow suit and secede from Washington DC (and NYC-Wall Street).

Regarding Andrew Brown: “In 2004 he joined French energy firm EDF Energy, as head of media relations, where as of 2011 he held the position of director of corporate communications“. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Brown_(media_strategist)

Regarding Gordon Brown: “2007- New prime minister, Gordon Brown, calls for an acceleration of nuclear power in a speech to business leaders.” (See:
Nuclear power in the UK – a history: Key events in the history of nuclear power in Britain“, by Jessica Aldred, Natalie Starkey theguardian.com, Monday 21 October 2013 09.47 BST http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2013/oct/21/nuclear-power-in-the-uk-a-history

What does the Church of Scotland, which the father of the Brown brothers served, say about caring for the earth?

Jesus and the lambs, Good Shepherd
The Good Shepherd, 19th century by German Artist Bernhard Plockhorst

CARING FOR THE EARTH
An Environment Policy for the Church of Scotland

SRT General Assembly Pages
Introduction
This policy affirms the Deliverances of previous General Assemblies concerning the responsibility of the Church of Scotland to care for the environment and pursue sustainable policies, and the recognition in the Church Without Walls Report of ‘our call to be an example as good stewards of God’s creation’. Building on this foundation of many years, it lays down guidelines to assist the Church of Scotland to translate these principles into action.
” (Emphasis added) Read more here: http://archive.srtp.org.uk/gaenvpol.shtml

The Church of Scotland is also opposed to nuclear weapons

The Church of Scotland remains opposed to the existence of nuclear weapons, since the 1983 General Assembly which voted that by their nature nuclear arms are morally and theologically wrong.” Read more here: http://www.churchofscotland.org.uk/news_and_events/news/archive/2013/nuclear_weapons_are_inherently_evil

The Scottish Catholic Church is opposed to Nuclear War

Nuclear weapons must never be used. This is clear teaching from Vatican II, from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, from the recent Popes, from the social teaching of the Church of Scotland, from the social teaching of the Catholic Bishops of Scotland, and many others“. http://www.justiceandpeacescotland.org.uk/Portals/0/Resources/replacing-trident.pdf

In short, the two traditional churches of Scotland are opposed to nuclear war.
The Church of Scotland calls nuclear weapons “morally and theologically wrong” and “inherently evil“.

But Why Worry About Nuclear War when Nuclear Reactors make Nuclear War every day?

People believe that their governments look after their health in safety. Unfortunately, in many instances, this appears patently false. ALL nuclear reactors leak radioactive emissions into air and water, intentionally and legally. At least some, and probably most, illegally leak additional radioactive emissions, either unintentionally or on purpose. The question is how much they are, or are not, allowed to leak. Accidents will happen too. Furthermore, nuclear reactors have been and continue to be forced upon people because they make the plutonium needed for production and upkeep of nuclear weapons. As such, the two are intimately connected.

We are currently faced with two nuclear reactor choices: old reactors which are the equivalent of driving on the autobahn in an auto from the 1960s or 70s, which may have rusty, worn-out brakes, as well as other problems of old age. Or, driving in a new car, which has been recalled for brake defects. Except it is really much worse, because the neutron bombardment in nuclear reactors makes the materials age more quickly, than a car would.
Neutrons also degrade materials; bombardment of materials with neutrons creates collision cascades that can produce point defects and dislocations in the materials. At high neutron fluences this can lead to embrittlement of metals and other materials, and to swelling of some of them. This poses a problem for nuclear reactor vessels, and significantly limits their lifetime (which can be somewhat prolonged by controlled annealing of the vessel, reducing the number of the built-up dislocations). Graphite moderator blocks are especially susceptible to this effect, known as Wigner effect, and have to be annealed periodically; the well-known Windscale fire was caused by a mishap during such an annealing operation“. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neutron_radiation

They also have trouble getting to parts of some old reactors to check for rust, etc., or to do repairs.

And, the new nuclear reactors in France, Finland and the US have been characterized by issues with welding of containment vessels, cement quality, and rebar placement. It’s been so bad that the pro-nuclear watchdogs in those countries had to intervene.

So, it’s really hard to tell which will be more dangerous – the old or the new. They both need to be stopped.

The new French designed dome structures would make lovely museums, churches or auditoriums. Just because they build new nuclear power plants doesn’t mean they have to go online. Some have not, due to poor construction; others because of opposition. Some have become other types of power plants. At least one became a set for movies.

US NOAA image of Cs 137 in the air in the days following the Fukushima accident. Cs 137 has a half life of 30 years. The red is 5,000,000,000,000 becquerels, i.e. 5 trillion becquerels.
One Bq is defined as the activity of a quantity of radioactive material in which one nucleus decays per second“. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becquerel So, that means 5 trillion emissions per second of radiation

NOAA explains to us that if the spirals are counter clockwise then it is more likely to be dumping out radiation. But, regardless, this radiation is going someplace and will not disappear for a very long time. In this context, nuclear annihilation may actually be more humane than the long drawn out suffering of humanity and animals, imposed by the nuclear industry and its minions.
Fukushima initial Cs 137 Dispersion by NOAA

For those who say we are being “mean” about the Brown brothers, you don’t know your Bible: It is clear what Jesus would do about the death-dealing Nuclear Industry and its Lobbyists!
