17 June 2014 update-clarification: By the time Energy Solutions got the Fukushima contract in March 2012, Steve Creamer was no longer CEO, though we think that he was still part owner until it was purchased by Energy Capital Partners in 2013. The CEO of Energy Solutions since June of 2012 has been David Lockwood who was formerly a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs. Lockwood joined the board of Energy Solutions in November of 2010. The CEO and founder of Energy Capital Partners, Doug Kimmelman, and most of the partners, worked for Goldman Sachs in the past. Doug Kimmelman worked for Goldman Sachs for 22 years. Individuals and PACs affiliated with Goldman Sachs donated slightly over $50,000 to Nevada Senator Harry Reid in the 2009 to 2014 election cycle. http://www.opensecrets.org/politicians/contrib.php?cid=n00009922&cycle=2014 This isn’t as personal as the alleged fundraiser at Steve Creamer’s home, but it is probably as or more lucrative. Toshiba manages the Fukushima clean-up and it is part of the Mitsui conglomerate (keiretsu). Sumitomo-Mitsui bank, part of the keiretsu, has invested in Goldman Sachs off and on since the 1980s. This may be why Toshiba has put up with the screwed up Energy Solutions ALPS system for so long at Fukushima. Doug Kimmelman is apparently Jewish and not Mormon – kind of surprising considering the power and clout of Mormons in Utah.

Leadership of Energy Solutions at the time they first received the Fukushima contract: https://web.archive.org/web/20120310085816/http://www.energysolutions.com/our-company/leadership Mark Morant, President, Global Commercial Group is still there and previously worked for Price Waterhouse. Energy Solutions Fukushima fuck-up and its apparent tie to US Sen. Harry Reid

Utah based Energy Solutions still cannot seem to get its Fukushima water filtration right! It is based in Mormon (LDS) Utah and Harry Reid is a Mormon. Steve Creamer, at the time, CEO of Energy Solutions held what seems a fund-raiser dinner for Reid at $1,000 a ticket. This is the same nasty company which burned 100 tons of German rad waste last year in Tennessee. The US gov. seems to have ignored citizen concerns and denied them a hearing:
The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission rejected citizens’ petition for a public hearing about the proposed import of 1,000 tons of radiaoctive waste from Germany to be burned in the Bear Creek incineration facility on the Oak Ridge nuclear weapons reservation.http://www.nonukesyall.org/stop_German_waste_import.html (Their permit is for 1,000 tons but they have reportedly only burned 100 tons – Jan. 2013). Energy Solutions has also illegally dumped higher than allowed radioactive waste in their Utah dump. This makes them akin to the Camorra mafia, who poisoned their own back yard with German radioactive sludge! It was deemed too dangerous to try to remove the illegally dumped waste so there it stays! They are also involved in dumping rad waste in the Lillyhall, Cumbria public landfill (UK is allowing it).

In case you forgot, Reid has actively blocked the hard rock Yucca mountain nuclear waste storage facility in his home state of Nevada, despite the huge amounts of taxpayer money, which have been spent on it already.

Tepco halts ALPS water cleanup system at Fukushima nuke plant

News Blog: A glowing celebration of Reid
August 9, 2009 at 10:00pm
Reports that CEO of Energy Solutions, Steven Creamer gave a reception honoring Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid at $1,000 per person. It is supposedly not an official Energy Solutions Event. See article here: https://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=128673982360 Steve Creamer is no longer CEO of Energy Solutions.

Energy Solutions is a Utah based company and was fined for putting radioactive waste which was more radioactive than allowed in its Utah dump. Explained here: http://www.examiner.com/article/energysolutions-identifies-violation-and-pays-fine

They are also active at Lillyhall in putting rad waste in a municipal landfill (legal). They were allowed to burn 100 tons of German rad waste in Tennessee in Jan. 2013 They operate the Barnwell, SC, site, reportedly leaking. There are other bad things about them which you may find online but because so many sites do not allow links, we leave it to the reader to look for themselves.

Everyone in the world can only hope and pray that the left and the right field alternative candidates in all upcoming US elections, which will split the vote 4 ways so that people can safely vote for alternative candidates. These alternative candidates need to not corrupt themselves during fund-raising, like the Republicans and Democrats do. Corrupt US Republicans and Democrats have caused too many problems in the US and abroad for far too long. The world cannot survive them and their corruption for much longer. The worst is that this campaign donation “corruption” is perfectly legal!

About Urenco:
The Urenco Group is a nuclear fuel company operating several uranium enrichment plants in Germany, the Netherlands, United States, and United Kingdom. It supplies nuclear power stations in about 15 countries, and states that it had a 29% share of the global market for enrichment services in 2011.[1][2] Urenco uses centrifuge enrichment technology.[3]
In 2013, sale of the government interests of Urenco was being sought.[4]
In 1970s, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan who worked for a subcontractor of URENCO in Almelo, brought the drawings of the centrifuges operated by Urenco to Pakistan without notifying the URENCO administration and the Dutch government. Those stolen blueprints were never returned to URENCO administration as Khan had resigned from his position.[citation needed] In the early 1974, dr. Khan joined the uranium enrichment programme, launched by Munir Ahmad Khan under Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Prime minister that time. Later, he took over the project, and established a facility that produces the HEU based on the stolen blue prints of URENCO Group.[10] Within a short span of time established a highly advanced uranium enrichment facility near Islamabad.[10]

U.S. National labs map
For those like us who have trouble with geography, here are the US Nuclear Labs, including Los Alamos.

Why did the labs-testing jump from New Mexico to Nevada-California and seem to have skipped Arizona? Did Goldwater protect his state? He did not become Senator until 1953, however. Also, we wonder why Los Alamos must send waste to Texas since WIPP is closed? Remember that WIPP is actually not for commercial nuclear waste but for governmental waste. Not only are they still trying to clean up the Lab at Los Alamos of old nuclear stuff, they are still actively producing nuclear wastes with nuclear experiments and thus making new stuff!

The Department of Energy (DOE), is proposing to ship transuranic waste currently located at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for temporary storage at Waste Control Specialists (WCS), located in western Andrews County, Texas. LANL has another ~546 cubic meters remaining out of the original 3706 cubic meters that was agreed to be moved to WIPP by June 2014.

Let’s be clear, there is no technical reason to store the waste temporarily at WSC. DOE and LANL just want to show that they can meet a deadline. The extra cost of this operation has not been released…http://www.nukewatch.org/watchblog/

Following a large forest fire that almost reached waste storage sites at LANL, the DOE and state of New Mexico negotiated a non-binding framework agreement to step up shipments of TRU wastes from LANL. The Framework Agreement set a deadline for over 3,700 cubic meters of TRU wastes to be removed by June 2014, and a deadline of December 2014 for the removal of all newly generated TRU waste. TRU waste from LANL is being sent to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad, New Mexico“. http://www.ncsl.org/research/environment-and-natural-resources/los-alamos-national-laboratory.aspx But, Texas could have fires too!

The Only Nuclear “Security” is stopping the Nuclear Industry!

Evil Nuclear Twins Meeting in The Hague-Amsterdam: Nuclear Gov and Nuclear Industry

Neither seem to have much of a conference going on, so it seems they will just be hanging out and looking at their “gift baskets”. Whatever is in their gift baskets? This is the question! Note that unfortunately, this is English “gift”, meaning a present, and not the German.

Do the “gift baskets” include pie? How many Bq/kg is in that pie?

http://ec.europa.eu/energy/nuclear/forum/meetings/doc/2013_05_30/day2block1/mr_rakhorst_enef_2013.pdf (Original had “cooperation govt-industry” in bold. Other emphasis added.)

Note the utter failures and dangers of nuclear waste dumps. Nuclear requires stopping and proper management of the existing waste! Note the illegal waste dumping in Italy, during construction of their high speed rail! It is not clear if this involved nuclear waste, but it probably did. Late last year, an Italian government document, of hearings with a member of the Italian Camorra mafia, was declassified. In it he explained how German nuclear sludge was dumped on Italian farmland, along with other hazardous waste. The relationship elucidated, between construction and waste dumping, is that backhoes needed for construction can also be used for digging holes for illegal dumping of waste.

At least this member of the Camorra mafia felt guilty for dumping hazardous waste on his people’s farmland, which is more than can be said of many government officials and the nuclear industry. They don’t feel guilty. Do they have a secret source of food and water as they have dizzyingly high levels of radiation in food and water set up as acceptable? Why is it ok for the US to have 1,200 Bq/kg of radiocaesium in their food, whereas in 1998 370 Bq/kg was the acceptable level? Why do Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong allow 1,000 Bq/kg of radiocaesium in their food, in the event of a “nuclear emergency”, even in another country? And, the EU has 600 Bq/kg? Why do the Japanese only have to eat up to 100 Bq/kg total radionuclides? Japanese babies only eat 50 Bq/kg radionuclides, already too high, but US babies (and adults) are supposed to eat over 1,500 Bq/kg of the few radionuclides evaluated. If no “intervention” is made prior to these amounta, one can only conclude that it means that the nuclear industry can really dump as they please. Even under the stricter, but still unacceptable 370 Bq/kg allowance, radioactive waste was reportedly burned illegally in multiple US locations, in the early 1990s.

Angela Merkel will not allow fracking in Germany but is happy to take shale gas from US fracking, which endangers US environment: http://frack-off.org.uk/resource/20-impacts-of-shale-oil-gas/. Friday, 21 March 1984-2014

30 Years Ago Today, 21 March 1984, Hilda Murrell, critic of the UK’s nuclear policy was abducted and eventually found dead. We have reblogged our December post about her:
https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/03/21/the-murder-of-hilda-murrell-critic-of-uk-nuclear-policy-2/ Her disappearance occurred, or was orchestrated, under PM Margaret Hilda Thatcher, who ironically shared the same name. Thatcher hideously deformed the names of two great British Saints. Hilda Murrell, on the other hand, was true to her Saints name: “Bede describes Hilda as a woman of great energy, who was a skilled administrator and teacher. She gained such a reputation for wisdom that kings and princes sought her advice“. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilda_of_Whitby

Last week the following question was asked in the UK parliament:
Austin Mitchell: To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if she will open an inquiry into the death of Hilda Murrell in 1984; [191558]
18 Mar 2014 : Column 534W
(2) what (a) Cabinet papers and (b) papers of her Department relating to the Hilda Murrell case will be released under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on the 30th anniversary of Hilda Murrell’s abduction and murder; [191568]
(3) if she will publish her Department’s briefing for the then Minister of State, Giles Shaw, for the adjournment debate on 19 December 1984. [191573]

Damian Green: The Government has no plans to open an inquiry into the death of Hilda Murrell
Any files held by the Government on the case will be considered for release within the requirements and timescales set out in the Public Records Act.” http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm201314/cmhansrd/cm140318/text/140318w0001.htm#column_533W Will they release the papers?

Russia’s Unnoticed Attack on the USA
As we have already wondered and warned about: Russian gov owned Rosatom now owns Uranium One with uranium mines in the USA and elsewhere. Countries need to watch out about these state-owned companies like Russian state-owned Rosatom and French state-owned Areva. There is no accounting for the folly of today’s leaders. It is beyond comprehension. Putin has not changed since his days as a KGB officer…duh. Why would he? And, the US gov allows over 1,500 Bq/kg radiation in its own citizens’ food. http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/ComplianceManuals/CompliancePolicyGuidanceManual/UCM07456 For protesting the situation in the USA, see: http://ffan.us/take-action Even a member of the Italian Camorra mafia eventually had some guilt pains about poisoning his country’s farmlands with radioactive sludge from Germany and other toxins. This suggests that many world leaders are mafia-like or worse than mafia. How many Bq/kg do Russians eat?

Russia spilled uranium leachate in Wyoming:
Spill continued unnoticed for nine days at Uranium One’s Willow Creek in situ leach uranium mine
Date and Estimated Time: from January 6, 2014 (estimated) to January 15, 2014 (10:45 am).
“Approximately 77,700 gallons of ISR recovery fluid was released from Modular Building 5-5 after the production manifold froze and broke when a 6” butterfly valve associated with the Mine Unit 5-2 trunkline and the building’s manifold failed. The release flowed North West approximately 5,440 feet [1,658 m] down a dry ephemeral drainage. The release did not enter any active waters including Willow Creek. […]
It is estimated that approximately 24,000 square feet (0.56 acre) [2,230 m2] of soil was impacted. […] This building is not utilized for production activities which allowed the release to go unnoticed for several days until routine quarterly sampling activities occurred in the area. […]”
Release analysis results: Mod 5-5 Recovery Manifold – 12.7 ppm Uranium […]
(Uranium One Feb. 12, 2014)
Uranium One proposes to process yellow cake from mothballed South Australian Honeymoon mine at Willow Creek site in Wyoming

On Dec. 10, 2013, Uranium One asked NRC for an “urgent Conference call […] to discuss the transfer and storage of drummed yellowcake from our Honeymoon facility in Australia to our Willow Creek facility in Wyoming. The Honeymoon facility was recently placed in care and maintenance and must move the yellowcake to a secure facility, preferably owned by Uranium One and within the U.S. […]
However, the Honeymoon material contains small amounts of organic residual from the solvent extraction process that is above each converter’s rejection limit for their processes. Therefore Uranium One also wishes to discuss with you the potential for reprocessing (additional drying – calcining) of this material at our Willow Creek facility.” [Uranium One Letter to NRC, Dec. 10, 2013 , ADAMS Acc. No. ML13350A032]
On Feb. 28, 2014, Uranium One submitted a related license amendment request to the NRC [ADAMS Acc. No. ML14066A112]”. http://www.wise-uranium.org/umopuswy.html#WILLOWCREEK And, who do you think will be left cleaning up Russia’s mess in Wyoming, especially if the US reappropriates it — the US taxpayer, of course.

Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists:
Russian nuclear forces, 2014
By Hans M Kristensen and Robert S Norris
Russia has taken important steps in modernizing its nuclear forces since early 2013, including the continued development and deployment of new intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), construction of ballistic missile submarines, and development of a new strategic bomber. As of March 2013, the authors estimate, Russia had a military stockpile of approximately 4,300 nuclear warheads, of which roughly 1,600 strategic warheads were deployed on missiles and at bomber bases. Another 700 strategic warheads are in storage along with roughly 2,000 nonstrategic warheads. A large perhaps – 3,500 – of retired but still largely intact warheads await dismantlement

When reading below, recall that Ed Davey, head of the UK Dept. of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) has a lawyer brother who has worked for EDF and whose law firm:
worked with EDF to gain development consent for the construction and operation of a new nuclear power station at Hinkley Point in Somersethttp://stopnuclearpoweruk.net/content/new-energy-secretarys-appointment-underlines-unhealthy-relationship-between-government-and
See: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/03/06/uk-energy-secretarys-nuclear-conflict-of-interest-a-commoners-view/

IT GETS MORE WEIRD: Ed Davey is Secretary of State of the DECC and the DECC OWNS THE NNL which “plays a key role in the UK and global nuclear industry, competing for research and technical services contracts in a range of specialist areas covering waste management and decommissioning, fuel cycles and reactor operations support. Its key customers include …EdF, Westinghouse… (and others listed below). So, Ed Davey’s brother’s law firm works or has worked for EDF. EDF is a customer of the NNL which is owned by the DECC which is headed by Davey. So, basically both Davey brothers work for EDF, which has gotten a contract for the new Hinkley point nuclear power plants, which themselves are getting price and loan guarantees, which according to Reuters below will earn investors up to 21%. Furthermore, EDF is about 85% French gov owned, which appears to mean that UK govt. official, Ed Davey, is effectively working for the French govt!
The UK gov on the NNL: “The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is a private limited company wholly owned by the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) through a holding company, NNL Holdings Ltd. NNL plays a key role in the UK and global nuclear industry, competing for research and technical services contracts in a range of specialist areas covering waste management and decommissioning, fuel cycles and reactor operations support. Its key customers include Sellafield (Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA)), EdF, Westinghouse, and the Ministry of Defence (MoD).https://www.gov.uk/government/news/announcement-on-the-national-nuclear-laboratory

Uh! The UK gov role in Hinkley is STINKY! EdF, ca pue!

From our related reblog:
The UK government it seems is desperate to burn public money, so desperate that it has made a deal with France’s EDF to guarantee more than twice the market price for nuclear electricity from the proposed new Hinkley C in Somerset. This will be seen as a test case for further new nuclear build.

Too cheap to meter? It really would be cheaper to burn money to boil a kettle! At least there would be no radioactive wastes to look after into eternity.

The European Commission has begun a consultation looking into this extraordinary state aid for what should be a stand alone mature industry. Extraordinary because every other sector of UK life is being ruthlessly privatised while nuclear, the one industry that should be responsible for itself is given the benefit of nationalisation – at the public’s risk and by the public’s purse“.

The Ides of March has arrived but not yet past, Beware the Ides of March: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ides_of_March

Because of the Crimean situation, there are so many news titles, that we were forced to open a new news post. While we had intended to say it was due to Putin’s mischief, it may simply be an agreed upon saber rattling by world powers, to make the price of oil rise, as it has. This would be in the interest of Russian owned petroleum companies, as well as petroleum companies elsewhere, which often bank-roll politicians, even where they are not government owned.

If there is real conflict, then shouldn’t this possibility have been thought through BEFORE the US gov allowed the sale of its most important uranium mine (Uranium One) to Russian Govt. owned Rosatom? Russia was to buy some other strategic US interests, as well, if approved. They must certainly own strategic interests elsewhere, unless the US gov is the only one who has been asleep for almost 3 decades. Only someone sleeping as deeply as Rip Van Winkle missed who Vladimir Putin is! He’s a former USSR KGB officer! His grandfather was Lenin’s cook and then Stalin’s cook! Due to the risk of poisoning, a cook is a very trusted and important position. It is worth noting that Lenin is believed to have been poisoned. This suggests that Putin’s grandfather may have contributed to Stalin’s rise to power! You can’t get more Stalinist than that! While Vladimir Putin is a very charismatic man, his charisma lies in his apparent low self esteem, which makes him look timid and insecure. There is nothing more potentially dangerous than someone with low self-esteem!

So, is this a Great Game to run up the price of petroleum and to assure that more money is allotted to the US military budget and perhaps military budgets in other countries? Or are the people in power that dumb? If you look at the lack of proper reaction, in most of the world, to Fukushima, they could be that dumb. In fact, their behaviour could drive anyone to drink. Meanwhile, if this is fake saber rattling, they may be cracking out the vodka and champagne to celebrate the rising price of petroleum.

William Faulkner’s famous (1951) quote: “The past is never dead. It’s not even past,” (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Requiem_for_a_Nun) seems to apply to more of the world than 20th century Mississippi. This is especially so if you consider the continuity in Russia from Stalin to Putin. Soviet Russia itself seems to have shared much in common with the Czarist Russian Police State. We should not forget that the Prime Minister of Japan’s maternal grandfather was head of industry (includes weapons production) during WWII. He also occupied a position of power in occupied China, where slave labour was used. In fact, fascists, including his grandfather, have been in control of Japan for most of the post-war period. So, what was the point of fighting in the Pacific during WWII? What was the point of the Cold War?
