We have a reblog from Cumbria Trust Post about Barnwell: https://miningawareness.wordpress.com/2014/01/24/elsewhere-court-to-hear-barnwell-us-waste-disposal-appeal/ too bad there’s no UK Sierra Club (found by John Muir born in Dunbar Scotland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sierra_Club ). People need to know that the ties between Lillyhall in Cumbria, UK, and the Barnwell site in South Carolina are direct. Those trying to dump rad waste at Lillyhall municipal land fill are Energy Solutions, the one responsible for the Barnwell site (Chem Nuclear is a subsidiary of Energy Solutions) along with WRG (Waste Recycling Group), now (currently) FCC Environment, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Spanish construction company FCC (Fomento de Construcciones y Contrata) the controlling interest of which is owned by billionaire Esther Koplowitz, whose mother was a Spanish aristocrat and whose father was a Jewish refugee from Nazi Germany: “Koplowitz is Vice-President of the Board of Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC), one of the leading diversified Spanish groups, employing around ninety thousand people. She also holds board positions in several national and international companies, for instance Vice-President of the board of Cementos Portland Valderrivas and formerly board member of French multinational Veolia Environnement”. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FCC_Environment http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fomento_de_Construcciones_y_Contratas Recall that Veolia was granted a permit to burn rad waste at Ellesmere Port (UK), last May 2013. According to Forbes Esther and her sister are billionaires. Esther is gorgeous on the outside but either thoughtless-ignorant or evil on the inside. The company has been indebted (how can a company be indebted when its owners are billionaires?) and 6% was recently bought by Bill Gates and 3% by George Soros, with Esther still holding the controlling shares. As the construction industry went belly up in Spain –obviously since it was built on an unsustainable scheme of endless growth– FCC has decided to focus on overseas funding and markets. According to Reuters, “Spain’s FCC to seek overseas financing”, By Andres Gonzalez and Judy Macinnes, Jun 22, 2011, “Spain’s FCC (FCC.MC) will focus on overseas growth and financial partners for new projects, to reduce its own investment commitment and the debt pile it accumulated during the global financial crisis.” So, it seems that while they all keep their billions, they will focus on dumping radioactive waste in poor Lillyhall’s landfill, with the help of screwup Energy Solutions that still can’t get the Fukushima water situation fixed with their screwup ALPS system. How long can it take people? ALPS has been around for DECADES, and dealing with nuclear facilities for DECADES. Recall that Energy Solutions is not even trying to filter the tritium at Fukushima – something which is more complex, but is being done elsewhere and which is object of the Barnwell complaint. If these folks don’t turn around there is an especially warm place in hell for them. If people don’t get serious over Fukushima, we will all be dead and going one direction or the other soon. There is money to be made in innovation and getting things done right! Why do these people continue to do things wrong? We really need to boycott Microsoft between this and Gates’ supporting new nuclear build.

Councillors have deferred a decision on whether to allow operators to expand the dumping of radioactive waste into ordinary landfill.

ACTION 1. Please Write to Cumbria County Council urging them not to give operators a license to dump ANY radioactive waste into Lillyhall landfill (info and points to make below)
The Development Control Committee Chair is Alan.Clark@cumbria.gov.uk
If you can write to all 18 of the Committee that would be great! http://councilportal.cumbria.gov.uk/mgCommitteeDetails.aspx?ID=124

ACTION 2. Please ask to speak at the County Council meeting tbc (around 26th Feb in Kendal or Carlisle). The more people who register to speak the more chance we have of stopping this dumping of radioactive waste in landfill.
